Product Description

It is the week before Christmas when young and adventurous Pietari uncovers the truth about Santa Claus. Legend has it that the jolly old man is more of a foe than a friend. A group of American scientists is also looking to uncover some facts in Pietari’s quiet rural town in northern Finland. It turns out that the most well-kept Christmas secret ever lies 500 meters below ground. This dark secret and Pietari unleash an unforeseen chain of events, after which, Christmas will never, ever, be the same again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rare treats. 2 Feb 2011
Format:DVD
Anyone remember Peter Jackson having humour and charm as well as a nice eye for detail? The people behind this do.

This is a very admirable horror/comedy that nods towards PJ and to be fair is a stunning feature-debut from Jalmari Helander. I don't want to give any spoilers, so I'll say this is a dark twist on the Santa Claus legend, very nicely executed. I've been following the Scandinavian horror "scene" for a little while after Dead Snow caught me completely by surprise and this is another snow-bound movie that delivers.

There's less blood/gore/violence in this than I was expecting - which I do like, but it didn't detract from the movie at all, I'd almost suggest this suitable for teen/tweens aside from some heavy(ish) bad language.

Will make a worthy purchase - go youtube the trailer.

5.0 out of 5 stars gripping, enchanting, inspiring 9 Sep 2011
Format:DVD
We saw this film at our local cinema, not knowing anything about it. From the opening moments we were gripped and engaged by a wonderful combination I have never experienced in a movie before: interplays of mythology, environment, politics. We left the film with our jaws still dropped. It's beautifully produced, amazingly authentic acting, and like nothing else you will see. The story line is very human and ultimately inspiring. I'm sorry that many people missed it at the cinema, so do get the DVD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! 29 Oct 2011
Format:Blu-ray|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm very excited that this is finally about to be released on dvd, after a year of waiting! I went to see this at the cinema with my husband, and because it was so unknown we had the screen to ourselves. From the moment it started it had my full attention, and I could tell it was going to be worth every penny. Once we left the cinema I couldn't stop thinking about how brilliant this film was!

It is a bit of a black comedy, but there were some moments that genuinely creeped me out and had me on the edge of my seat. The acting is brilliant, setting is perfect and the plot is absorbing. I highly recommend adding this to your christmas collection if you like to have a bit of variety, however if you want cookies, laughter and puppies with tinsel this may not be for you.

I am hoping that this film starts to get more recognition because it seems to be getting ignored and it really deserves more. I am not going to go into depth about how good the score is or how well it was shot, but i just need to mention that is has been well crafted and succeeds in creating the perfect atmosphere. I genuinely don't have a bad word to say about this film, as soon as it drops through my letter box i will watch it, and it will go on again during xmas week!

I remember the cinematic trailer for Rare Exports. As a general rule, trailers tend to make a good film look bad, or a bad film look good. Read more
