Once upon a time, in a land very far away, there lived a girl with her mother. Every day as the girl grew and played, she also became more and more curious about the world outside. One day she finally climbed up her wall and discovered that she really knew nothing at all.

And that was when she decided to do something about it.

Think you know Rapunzel? You've never heard it like this!

With a feisty heroine who uses her ridiculously long hair as a weapon and a sidekick who travels with a goose that just might lay a golden egg, RAPUNZEL'S REVENGE takes the traditional tale of Rapunzel and turns it on its head.

Shannon and Dean Hale create a thoroughly entertaining world in which Rapunzel takes claims her life as her own. Follow along as she embarks on a swashbuckling quest to save the world from the evil witch who has held her captive in a move that sets the bar for adventurous heroines everywhere.

Be forewarned: RAPUNZEL'S REVENGE is not for everyone. It is a graphic novel, and while the illustrations are gorgeous and highly amusing, some readers may not be drawn in by the format. However, for those who love graphic novels, fairy tales, and awesome heroines, this story may be just the thing.

Happy reading.

Rapunzel's Revenge 4 Sep 2010
By Jenny, Wondrous Reads TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
I didn't like Rapunzel's Revenge quite as much as Calamity Jack, but I still really enjoyed it. I've come to learn that graphic novels are a fun addition to my usual reading, and they're a great way to spend a couple of hours.

I read this series out of order, so I was glad that Rapunzel's Revenge answered a few of the questions I was left with after finishing Calamity Jack. I got more of the Jack/Rapunzel relationship progression I was missing, and also learnt why Rapunzel's long lasso-type hair is no longer attached to her head.

The Rapunzel retelling itself is witty and unusual, and I love how the Wild West is seamlessly included in the story. It provides an adventurous backdrop for the characters, and gives Nathan Hale a lot of scope when it comes to his excellent artwork.

I wasn't as fond of the tale in this first book, and it didn't appeal to me as much as Jack and his giant-infested beanstalk. I'm going to blame that on my love of Calamity Jack, in which Jack features more. Rapunzel might be a cool girl with mad braid skills, but she's no charming man with a tendency to swoop in and save the damsel in distress. I go for the big strong man every time - I can't help it!

I bought this for myself and loved the twist on Rapunzel, here she doesn't passively sit around waiting to be rescued, she takes her fate (and her hair) into her own hands and rescues herself. Beautifully drawn and wonderfully funny. I zoomed through it in a couple of hours, but whilst I was reading it I really didnt want to put it down again.

Once I had finished it my daughter (6) spotted it and read it herself. Its now one of her favourite books and she loves the character of Rapunzel who can stand up for herself and doesn't let anyone put her down. What a truly wonderful message to give to a child, that you don't have to wait around for a man to rescue you, that with some self-confidence (and some reallly long hair) you don't have to rely on anyone else just ebcause of your gender.
