From the minute the incomparable Debbie Harry spouts off:
Fab Five Freddy told me everybody's fly
DJ spinning I said "My My"
Flash is fast flash is cool
Francois c'est pas flashe non due
- you know that mashing, or rather, messing, with her can only garner positive results!
To think that the BLONDE ONE spit out rap back in the late 70s/early 80s like it was yesterday speaks volumes about just how underestimated a talent she was and IS! I love the Doors especially, "Riders on the Storm," but I can't listen to that song now without the gnawing sense that something is missing - bring it on Debs and let it rollllllll....! To be fair, I say the same for Blondie's "Rapture" - without Jim, it ain't never gonna be the same! I love some of the FX on this track, especially the descending piano overlay and the "church bells" interspersed throughout - it's haunting, it's lyrical, it's lush and it's lovely - and it may not make all that much sense when you actually listen to the words from both songs but music should never be so rigid - it flows girly-girl blonde with the deep rich Morrison baritone thrown in for balance! Hypnotic and sexy like a multiple...well nevermind.
