History lesson review of sorts [rental]
on 30 August 2014
Standard ratings fail.
One thing first - if, as I do, you take interest in any dinosaur-related flick, you might know this movie's history - its production was ASSUMED CANCELLED. Normally, CGI dates very fast. CGI in creature features tends to be unimpressive anywany, and this movie's CGI, being developed in '08 (NOT 2013), would inevitably have become even less impressive before its release.
And look - Lorenzo Lamas, not among the original cast, NEVER APPEARS ONSCREEN WITH ANY CENTRAL CAST MEMBER.
There's other things, too - one major character states there are no police (Lamas already talked to officers, but remember, he wasn't in the movie's original version), and later, characters are chased by TWO dinosaurs (which left a barn with a single name written on it), yet someone refers to "that thing", SINGULAR.
So, ignoring the expected production problems...
Basically, this movie is about, well complete nonsense. It starts off roughly equivalent to a release by Brain Damage Films (so vastly below your standard Syfy-commisioned movie), then turns into some weird faux Troma film, complete with people switching from scared/concerned/upset to casual in seconds. Someone throws a bone and a t-rex chases it. Where that bone came from remains a mystery as the only victim whose body was near died from decapitation. That's just one example of the illogical thins that happen here.
But, quality aside, the dinosaurs actually more a lot more than the critters from many other creature features. There's more variety in animation and such.
