About the Author
Christof Thoenes studied art history in Berlin and Pavia before completing his doctorate in Berlin. Thoenes lives in Rome, where for many years he has worked for the Bibliotheca Hertziana (Max-Planck-Institute), and is honorary professor in Hamburg. He has contributed to numerous publications on Italian art, particularly on architecture and architectural theory of the 15th to 18th centuries.

Good reading!!! Fair to review.

This is a good book, but I wish Taschen had produced a more complete book on Raphael, like those about Leonardo and Michelangelo.

* - There are good reproductions to draw.
* - Shows a good resume of the life of the artist. Without repeating many aspects of his time, which is well know for those familiar with the Renaissance.

* - The book size isn't big enough to let us appreciate the details of the paintings.
* - Do not present recreations of the artists emotional life and personal accounts (because they almost don't exist).
