Product Description

Product Description

Can sworn enemies fight side by side to save their lives and their kingdoms? Just as spring approaches and Will and Evanlyn can finally escape Skandia, Evanlyn is carried off by mysterious horsemen. Will sets out after them, but one boy against six fierce Temujai warriors is impossible odds - even for a Ranger's apprentice. Halt and Horace arrive just in time. But the happiness of their reunion is cut short when Halt realizes these Temujai are only scouts for a massive invasion force. The four Araluans must work together with the Skandians to defeat the invaders - if the Oberjarl will accept their help.

From the Back Cover

Halt shrugged. 'It's War. The trick is to know what risks to take.'
'And how do you know that?' Borsa asked him.
Halt smiled wolfishly. 'You wait till it's over and see who's won. Then you know those were the right risks to take.'

'I was hooked from the first few pages' Dylan McCarthy, Age14
'Brilliant . . . I couldn't put it down!' Thomas Edwards, Age 8.

WARNING this is sme story as Battle for Skandia do not be conned into buying twice. Otherwise a good read for younger readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Same as "Battle for Skandia" but a superb book, 7 Feb 2009
By R. Griffiths (UK) - See all my reviews

The other reviewers are right in saying that this is the same as "The Battle for Skandia". If you look at Flanagan's own web site you will see that the books are printed with different covers and different titles in different countries. I made exactly the same mistake and bought both books which did make me very cross. HOWEVER, if you have read neither and enjoyed the other Rangers books this is just as good. It is, in my humble opinion, a superb series. The characters are beautifully drawn out for a childrens' book, Halt in particular, and the humour, language and descriptive passages mark it out as unusually well written. What impresses me most about all of them is that Flanagan uses real words. He does not dumb down his use of language at all for his younger audience which broadens the language skills as well as being an excellent read. There's more than a few touches of Lord of the Rings and other such books but that's because it's of that genre. If your children enjoy well crafted fantasy with morals, humour, battles and good characters then do read this.

Same book as Battle for Skandia (which I already own) but with different title. Very poor Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Homework help
Loved this book, it is a great story. Despite being a pacifist I love a book with lots of battle strategies. I also enjoy kids books as they are not so gory. Read more
