WARNING this is sme story as Battle for Skandia do not be conned into buying twice. Otherwise a good read for younger readers.

The other reviewers are right in saying that this is the same as "The Battle for Skandia". If you look at Flanagan's own web site you will see that the books are printed with different covers and different titles in different countries. I made exactly the same mistake and bought both books which did make me very cross. HOWEVER, if you have read neither and enjoyed the other Rangers books this is just as good. It is, in my humble opinion, a superb series. The characters are beautifully drawn out for a childrens' book, Halt in particular, and the humour, language and descriptive passages mark it out as unusually well written. What impresses me most about all of them is that Flanagan uses real words. He does not dumb down his use of language at all for his younger audience which broadens the language skills as well as being an excellent read. There's more than a few touches of Lord of the Rings and other such books but that's because it's of that genre. If your children enjoy well crafted fantasy with morals, humour, battles and good characters then do read this.

Homework help
Loved this book, it is a great story. Despite being a pacifist I love a book with lots of battle strategies. I also enjoy kids books as they are not so gory. Read more

The action and adventure continue
This book is published as The Battle for Skandia in the US which in my opinion is a more descriptive (and hence, better) title than Oakleaf Bearers. Read more

Feel a bit conned
Same book as Battle for Skandia (which I already own) but with different title. Very poor Amazon.
