Book Description

John Flanagan makes a spectacular return to the world of Ranger's Apprentice - but what has happened since you last saw Will and his friends might shock you!

Will took an oath when he joined the Ranger Corps. Does it mean nothing to him now?

After a senseless tragedy destroys his life, Will is obsessed with punishing those responsible – even if it means leaving the Ranger Corps. His worried friends must find a way to stop him taking such a dark path.

It is Halt who suggests the solution: Will must take an apprentice. The candidate Halt has in mind will surprise everyone – and it will be a request Will cannot refuse.

Training a rebellious, unwilling apprentice is hard enough. But when a routine mission uncovers a shocking web of crime, Will must decide where his priorities lie – finishing his quest for revenge, or saving innocent lives?

The final book of the Ranger’s Apprentice series raises the stakes higher than ever. Is Will on his last mission for the Ranger Corps?

4.0 out of 5 stars Sad To See The Series End 11 Jun. 2015
The Royal Ranger is the very last book in the Ranger’s Apprentice series.

Grief stricken from a terrible tragedy, Will is bent on revenge, even if it means breaking his oath to the Ranger Corps. His concerned friends decide that something must be done and Halt comes up with the idea that he is to take on an apprentice…but not just any apprentice.

I think the last book in a series is a hard one to review because it’s essentially ending the fantasy and that can be a disappointment in itself. Especially after twelve books.

Over fifteen years have passed and a lot has happened in that time. Will has practically turned into Halt, which I found amusing however a little disappointing because there wasn’t much “Will” in him. I know he wasn’t himself due to his grief but even then he just read like Halt. The other characters were practically the same however Princess Cassandra or Evanlyn seemed a bit more bossy and bratty than usual. At first I really liked Maddy and I thought she was severely misunderstood however how wrong was I!!! What a brat!!! It was good to see how she grew and matured though.

The story is steady paced with a fair bit happening throughout. There is a lot of attention to detail, except for the ending. I found the story ended quite abruptly and it didn’t match the rest of the book. I think that was my only disappointment with it.

Overall it was a really enjoyable read and I’m sad to see the series end. I would definitely recommend this book, and this series, for children, young adults and even adults if you like fantasy and adventure. However you need to start at the beginning with the first book, The Ruins of Gorlan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Above satisfactory and beyond 28 July 2014

This book is by far one of the best books I have read. I love this book as the author John Flanagan has made the characters so love able and interesting that you can't help but feeling the same emotions that they do. Therefore as the characters are so loved it creates a certain intimate
Relationship with the story and the world they all live in.

As for people who say the first four books in the series are the only decent books I disagree entirely as my thoughts on the topic are that the further on you get in the series the more you are connected with the characters of the story which in turn makes the books better on some level.

This review was made to be helpful and informative about the rangers apprentice books and series and how I believe they are an excellent read for all ages. As for me I hope John Flanagan keeps writing more of this series and also of the Brother band series which I would defiantly check out if you are a fan of rangers apprentice.

I hope this has been helpful if so like it and I will see you in my next review.
Tar ra!

2.0 out of 5 stars Bit of a dud 20 Feb. 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My son loved the first 11 Ranger books and the Brotherband series but this one was hard going from the start as the first half of the book has no action at all and the whole thing read like a rehash of the earlier stories.

It feels like an attempt to restart the franchais for girls ... Not a patch on his previous stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful addition to the series 30 Jan. 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My 11 yo son loves these books. He's read them all and was delighted when we saw this had been published. The book arrived, he went to his room and I didn't see him for the rest of the day. When he finished he came downstairs and said 'I'm so sad -I've finished it'. What better recommendation can there be?

2.0 out of 5 stars Weak and non consistent 7 April 2014

Does not get to the level of the previous ones.

Better to catch another apprentice than the one selected in the plot.

If it was pretended to be an ending saga book, lacks pulse. Sorry John, the other left the mark high

12th in an intriguing adventurous series written for teens. As a great gran I thoroughly enjoyed the whole series. Enjoyed the warped geography of places I could identify, almost. Real page turners.

A well written story as all of the books in the series have been. Plenty of action and will keep the reader wanting to get involved and not put the book down. Can't wait for the next book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fair to middling 8 May 2015
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
For fans of will and halt and the Rangers this book starts with a serious kick in the happily ever after, I won't spoil it, suffice to say that I litterally put the book down and said "aw! You poor ba** ard!"
Having got that off my chest I will say it introduces a peach of a charector in wills apprentice! A spoiled princess is no match for a grumpy, grieving hate filled ranger. While I wasn't impressed with the way the book starts, I enjoyed the way the story unfolded and particularly loved the ending
