Format:Mass Market Paperback
Clyde Edgerton has done a remarkable job of capturing the cultural situation rural North Carolina. It readily reminds me of my father's (an Episcopalian) marriage to his Baptist wife. Also, it was sort of a funny prediction of what it would have been to marry my high school sweetheart, also a Baptist. No, these characters aren't stereotypical! I know many people in my life all too like this.
Not only is the book accurate, but it's humorous. However, it doesn't compare to seeing an Edgerton reading!

If you grew up in North Carolina in the 50's, (although RANEY takes place in the 70's) don't miss this book! It will remind you of so many silly things from that time period. It was a delightful read!

This is one of the funniest books I have ever read! When I don't have a new book to read, I reread this one. The author does such a great job of using the characters to point out some of the hypocracy of Fundamentalist Christians, while making these same characters sympathetic at the same time.

Hysterical! One of the few books that make you laugh aloud.
