5.0 out of 5 stars random harvest, 2 April 2009
By Mol Berry (England) - See all my reviews
Have been waiting for this to come out on DVD for ages. This is a classical black and white movie of the romantic genre that always makes you want to cry. A brilliant story of love conquering all. Set after the war it stars two of the great leads of the romantic genre, Greer Garson and Ronald Coleman.A brilliant story take on the girl meets boy, girl loses boy then boy finds girl leading to a feelgood happy ending. A really great movie full of atmosphere that will have you crying at the end BRILLIANT.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gradual unfolding story from tragedy to happyness., 2 Sep 2008
By Derek Stiles (Bury St Edmunds) - See all my reviews
A marvelous story from the writer James Hilton. There are some changes in the story, and some scenes are chocolate box such as the cottage bt the stream with trout in the lake, and the horse and cart pulling up with the bride and groom. Ronald Colman and Greer Garson are first class actors, but they seem to old to be to old for the parts they play.Coleman looks like a man in his late fiftys. Walking out of the unguarded asylum in 1919, when in fact he would be in his early twentys called to enlist in 1914. The characters Smithy meets in the gradual unfolding story are interesting, Biffa Briggs the boxer, Harrison the man who comes to work for Smithy or Charles Rainier as he is revealed to be, and of course the romantic interest of Paula Ridgeway played by Greer Garson the musicial comedy turn who befriends Smithy or Charles Rainier as he becomes. Who marries him Smithy and helps him regain his memory, so that he, Smithy can return his love to her.
