If you're looking at this DVD and expecting Vic and Bob's usual antics, you'll be disappointed. Similarly, if you were a fan of the original series, I expect you'll be horrified by this remake.
I watched the show when it first aired, mainly, I'll admit, due to a fondness for Vic and Bob, and out of curiosity towards their more 'serious' side. Quite frankly if they made documentaries of them visiting toothpaste factories, I'd watch it.
The series was produced by Charlie Higson, so the odd flash of the 'comedy' V&B does shine through at times. (He also makes a small cameo role in every episode - see if you can spot him in his very bad disguises). Let's also point out now that Bob is a far better actor than Vic, although I suspect that's due to the role of Jeff being far more straight-laced than the extravagant character of Marty.
Every episode is a standalone case so can be enjoyed on it's own without having to watch the series in order. However, if you do this, you'll miss out on the characters relationships developing as the series moves onwards.
The series 1 DVD has a nice little behind the scenes feature which includes interviews with the guest stars such as Charles Dance and Hugh Laurie (pre the Dr House and international sex symbol days), as well as Vic and Bob larking about and being as random as ever.
It's a shame that the show ended after 2 series as it finished on a whimper rather than a bang.
If you enjoy on first watch you will keep going back to, so think of it as an investment. Overall, a nice bit of 'silly drama' and some great one liners.
