Review

I like book, me. --Robbie Williams

Review

'Randumb: the Adventures of an Irish Guy in LA is...a thoroughly entertaining read that will make you 'LOL' - laugh out loud - as so many have done on Mark Hayes' blog... [it] is an intelligently put-together, often satirical anlaysis of the times we live in'. --Verbal Magazine

Dumb Good 20 May 2010
Format:Paperback
Flew through this book, its a funny concept. Its an example of the American way of life is probably better judged by those born outside its world. The writer seemingly engulfed himself in American culture to tell this story. If you have ever lived for a time in America you could certainly relate to the topics he discusses. This laugh out account of a Cork guy in LA shows the contrasting affect of two towns where one doesn't suffer many fools (Cork) and of another that seems to be the capital city for them (LA). Its a refreshing and original account of American culture.

Considering the title and the cover of the book, one is tempted to expect a book full of stories about being drunk, scoring girls and being hung over - since that's what the Irish do. And you do get those stories in case that's what you're looking for. Except that however, you get a lot more! It's also a very honest piece about the problems of getting on in a foreign country without a real plan, without real friends and on a low budget. Told in an ironic way, picked with satiric insights about the sick state of our generation. Everything written in a very special style. Short. Sentences. Is. The. Motto. A caricature of the Facebook/Twitter-generation's inability to communicate in a proper way? Could. be. All in all: a very funny and, if you read behind the lines, also very intelligent book about the search for one's dream and the attempts to live it.
