Product Description

Product Description

Have you ever thought of travelling back in time to meet your ancestors? Chris did, and along the way he meets two remarkable women and some very special 'spirits' who change his life forever. His genealogical studies hold him in good stead as he enters first a Victorian world and then a Regency one, before visiting the New Forest just before World War 2. A voyage of discovery and fulfillment, ending by the lake where he finally understands the true meaning of love and friendship.

The reader is presented with thought-provoking and challenging issues such as soulmate and platonic love, and how we deal with loss and departed loved-ones. Poignant and heartfelt in places but humorous in others as the characters display the full range of human emotions. If you like Jane Austen, you will love Elizabeth Lowndes. If you like Pre-Raphaelites, you will be drawn to Irene and her world. If you are an idealist and a romantic, this book might be for you.

I bought this 'book' for two reasons - firstly I wanted a digital book to try on my iPad, secondly it appealed because I know Ramsdell Hall and I'm a fan of the Macclesfield Canal. This is obviously a first book by the author but any weakness in the style is made up for by the imagination that has gone into the story and its construction. The mix of fact and fiction can result in one forgetting which of those states one is exploring, the fiction has a realism despite remembering that it is actually fiction. It is enjoyable building the feasible fictional story around the realities of the hall and its place in the Cheshire countryside. I haven't finished it yet but I will certainly do so! I should add that to enjoy this book - to enter into the spirit of it - it is necessary to have an open mind with respect to ghosts and time travel!
