I have a daughter who was the same age as Ramona when we first saw this at the cinema, so it seemed an appropriate time to see it. We both loved it, there was something to entertain both of us. I loved the way they captured Ramona's fantastic imagination, showing her hanging way above a ravine when she was just on a climbing frame in the playground, or parachuting from the clouds, when she was actually only jumping off a step with a sheet.

As a bonus, the next door neighbour with the Land Rover provided some welcome eye candy, and I have to admit I did cry just a little bit at the end.

A real feelgood film with no scary moments, some truly laugh out loud moments, and a happy ending, albeit a little predictable. We enjoyed it so much we saw it twice at the cinema.

I'm just waiting for the DVD to come out in the UK now....

When we saw this at the cinema (by accident as I was looking up the times for something else when I noticed this was on) my 5yr old daughter was entranced and cried at the end, because she wanted to see it again. And, finally, she can, after an interminable wait for the DVD release. This is a perfect film for younger girls, with likeable characters and events that children can relate to, and I'm surprised that it was not more widely publicised in the UK. There's plenty of humour as Ramona tries to save the family home and it's not too saccharine for adults. And John Corbett is an added bonus for mothers watching the film.

I took my 8 yr old to the pics to see this, (not knowing what it was) on the cheapy a.m. viewing. How chuffed were we with it? Went again a month or so later in another town!! Its a wonderful film of general life. Childhood, teen and adult stories of the perfect, yet not sickly, family. The dad and aunts boyfriend (in the end) are both 'eye-candy'. Brilliant movie, saw it on Sky after Christmas too and still cried despite knowing what was coming. Shame about the cat picky picky :-( YOU MUST SEE THIS. Sooooooo glad its finally on DVD, have been checking every few weeks to buy for xmas but sadly missed it.

Mums, dads (if they're honest) and daughters will love this amusing slice of suburban American life following the adventures of nine year old Ramona and her fifteen year old sister Beatrice (Beezus). Although Selena Gomez with her Disney links is promoted as the star, young Joey King as Ramona really carries this film. She looks like a young Natalie Portman and rather than being a sickly sweet Disney kid she is absolutely charming and very funny. The plot is simple and revolves around their father losing his job and the family trauma that ensues but make no mistake, this is no weepy, this is a feelgood movie that leaves you glad you watched it. Yes it is predictable and watching it requires no mental effort but that doesn't stop it being entertaining. Sometimes one can get fed up with endless shoot outs, explosions and car chases. This is a film you can safely watch with all your family secure in the knowledge that the worst word you will hear is 'guts' (Ramona's choice of bad word), no one will die and it will all end happily ever after and leave you smiling.

This is a loose adaptation of an assortment of events from the eight "Ramona" novels, with a dash of Hollywoodism thrown in. The grown-ups in it are all impossibly good-looking (I quite fancied Ramona's father, personally), Beezus verges more on a character out of "Clueless" than the character in the books, and the romance between Aunt Bea and Howie's uncle is played up relentlessly.

However, it works, and my six-year-old daughter loved it. I've just read the first four "Ramona" books out loud to her, and she happily identified the familiar motifs: Picky Picky the cat, the "Klickitat Street" sign, jumping through the hole in the house, the longest picture in the world etc. etc..... the greatest hits are all there.

Ramona is nine years old, and lives in suburban America with her fourteen-year-old sister Beezus, baby sister Roberta, parents, and Aunt Bea. With a major imagination (which the film brings to life with extra CGI for sending her into space, dangling her over a ravine etc.), Ramona is a non-conformist and frequently in disgrace both at school and home, while being compared to the more seemingly perfect Beezus and her own classmate Susan.

Everything changes when Ramona's father loses his job, which could mean the loss of the house to the bank, and Howie's uncle moves in next door. Ramona enacts a series of heartfelt eccentric plans both to raise a million dollars and to keep Aunt Bea from doing any mushy kissing stuff.

Great actors - the child playing Ramona is wonderful! - and lively script.
