Each of these essays began life as a newspaper column, so it's easy to dip into the two or three page long mini adventures of Ralph who walks and cycles around Caithness, exploring the landscape. The black and white drawings complement the understated style of the writing, my favourites were the energetic hares, the crab and Ralph and his bike getting caught by the incoming tide when a ferryman refuses to transport the bike!
Definately not a guide book as there are only vague descriptions of route, but really an encouragement for all of us to get out and savour our surroundings.
