This is an interesting book, and captures the terrible problems faced by the citizens of Newcastle upon Tyne during the plague in 1636. My one reservation, and the reason that I have not given it 5 stars, is that I expected to discover more about Ralph Tailor, the Scrivener. After all, that is the title of the book. I suspect, however, that there was very little archival material about him that would have allowed Professor Wrightson to provide a fuller picture.
