More About the Author

Marguerite Kaye writes hot historical romances from her home in cold and usually rainy Scotland. Featuring Regency Rakes, Highlanders and Sheikhs, she has published almost thirty books and novellas.

When she's not writing she enjoys walking, cycling (but only on the level), gardening (but only what she can eat) and cooking. She also likes to knit and occasionally drink martinis (though not at the same time).

Marguerite Kaye reminded me why I love reading historicals with this passionate tale. All the usual traits were there - innocent governess being seduced by the handsome rake - or was it?

Henrietta may be the virginal governess and Rafe may give the impression of the typical regency rake, but that's were the similarities end. Henrietta is no simpering virgin, far from it, she is outspoken and her innocence is charming. I liked her straight away, as she comes to terms with this strange attraction she feels to the handsome rake. And Rafe, well, he doesn't quite know what to do with the forthright and unpredictable governess who he finds in his ditch.

When circumstances throw them together they have to fight their attraction, as well as clear Henrietta's name. I loved the way Ms Kaye didn't take the usual route, of forcing them into marriage, because the heroine's name was sullied, as so often happens in these stories. No pregnancy forcing them together either. No, the author does a brilliant job at making the reader wonder how these two are going to resolve their issues. I was flying through the latter part of this book and shed a few tears for Rafe's pain and sniffed even more at the end - in a good way.

A lovely story!

"Rake with a frozen heart" is a romance set in 1824 which begins with Elizabeth Markham, a governess and daughter of two middle class intellectuals, having been attacked by someone who was apparently a housebreaker, and left unconscious by the side of the road. She is rescued by a nobleman, Rafe St Alban, Earl of Pentland. The two do not exactly hit it off, but he becomes convinced that she is the victim of a wicked crime and determines to clear her name ...

Very much a stock regency plot, although I found the characters far more 21st century than early 19th in their attitudes. Those who like bog-standard regency romances and are not too fussed about the period detail feeling authentic will probably enjoy this. Those who are looking for a work along the lines of those produced by Georgette Heyer or Jane Austen will not.

A lovely story about two people from totally different backgrounds. One a sheltered innocent, the other a rake. Follow their path to love and enjoy the story as I did.
