5.0 out of 5 stars "Is Anybody In There?", 24 Jan 2007
By Helen Jacobs-Grant (Tyne & Wear, UK) - See all my reviews
Teenagers can be so taxing, stressful and just plain old weird at times. Some of the things that come out of my two teenage son's mouths just defy logic and some days I have felt like I wanted to go out on a deserted beach and scream my lungs out across the sea in pure utter frustration of having lost all the communication, loveliness and manners that my sons had displayed over the previous fourteen or fifteen years of their lives at home.

I found this book a good insight into communication problems between myself and my sons because it is written in plain understandable language, had me laughing at times and addressing the monster I felt I had become.

Teenage logic is something of an odity, well that is my own experience with my two but it would appear that the author has had similar experiences with her teenage children too so that made me feel much brighter about things and a light at the end of the tunnel is now clearly visible whereas before it wasnt.

Step by step guide to raising teenagers, clearly written, a really good useful read, gave me loads of insight and has helped tremendously.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who starts to feel like they are treading water with no arms or legs whilst trying to understand the teenage members of their household.

5.0 out of 5 stars raising teens, 9 Oct 2007
Having a teenager is new to me. I know that it comes up very quickly and I can still remember my own teenage years. However dealing with a teen puts parenting into a whole new category. I needed this really clever and helpful manual. Set out as 52 brilliant ideas it means that it can flit between different subjects. Words of wisdom in one book. This book helps move out of the negative spiral that seems to overhang the house and on trying a number of the ideas I do feel more positive. My teen appears to be more willing on some occasions which has made the whole household just a little easier. I will be keeping this book next to my bed so that I can have a quick reminder all the time and try different ideas as the weeks go by. The implications of my actions on reading this book are obviously working as we are able to hold a nice conversation without complete negativity all over us. A small cloud has been moved over. (not lifted yet but moved just a little to the left. I am happy to recommend this book to those of you with teenagers or almost teens as this has some valuable information in.
