Play out the hand her way…or fold?

Three of a Kind, Book 2

After four years, Megan Loxley has given up waiting for her best friend, Desmond Reed, to realize she loves him. It’s time to move on. When Des introduces her to his poker buddy, Alex Truman, the instantaneous sparks that flare between them signal her life is about to change forever.

Des could kick himself. How could he have failed to notice the perfect woman was by his side all this time? Now it’s too damn late. And her innocent prodding about why he’s suddenly so distant is only making his hunger for her worse. Then she gets one step too close—and his self-restraint snaps.

Stunned, bewildered, furious, Meg can’t help but respond to the kisses for which she waited so long. God help her, she loves Des. And Alex, too. Immeasurably. Now what?

It may make her the greediest woman alive, but she’s determined to win the next hand— even if she has to change the game a little. First step: state her wildly sexy proposition in a language both men will understand…and hope they’ll stick around and play by her rules.

Warning: If you’re looking for a cool game of poker, you won’t find it here. This novella is so hot the cards are still smoking. The heroine may be new to the game, but she knows exactly how to play her two kings.

3.0 out of 5 stars I was hoping for more. 10 Jan 2011

I enjoyed the writing skill and the two male partners, but for some reason the female character just erked me to no end. I felt like she was manipulating both of the heros. I felt like she didn't really care how either of the men felt as long as they both agreed to being with her. And they both loved her so much they would do anything to stay with her, even put up with sharing her. They constantly gave her hints that they were not happy, but she just ran over there feelings.

I guess I just like it better when all parties are agreeable to the situation and that nobody feels like they are being forced. It just seems like a situation that will not last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Hot Read 4 Jan 2011

After four years of unrequited love for her best friend, Megan has finally decided to move on. When Des, the man of her fantasies and her best friend, introduces her to poker buddy Alex, she falls hard. And Alex feels the same for her. It's only after this that Des realizes what he's done; lost the only woman he ever loved, and gave her away to his buddy.

Meanwhile, life couldn't get any better between Alex and Megan, right? Well at least until, after a night of extremely satisfying and exhausting sex, Meg drifts off to sleep, replying to Alex's `I love you' with her reply of `I love you too, Desmond'. Can she convince Alex she loves him as well as Des? When Meg realizes she wants both of the men in her life in her bed as well, will they both agree? Or will she lose her best friend forever?

Jess Dee has a talent for making you care about her characters. This trio is no exception. I laughed at some of the antics, cried at a few places, and cheered when these three finally made that first step to be together. Of course, they say the course of true love never runs smoothly, and it is certainly true in this case. I loved that the threesome wasn't a foregone conclusion, and that Megan had to fight hard for what she wanted from the guys.

Megan is a realist. I like that she was determined to get on with life, after pining for Des for four long years. I loved seeing her make a new life with Alex, at least until she realizes what she really wants. Then her determination to have it all is just fantastic.

Des and Alex are perfect for Meg. Alex is the romantic and spontaneous one, while Des is the brooding hero who gives up his dreams to see the woman he loves happy. They are both hunks of the first order, and I can see why Meg can't choose between them. What sane woman could?

This has it all; romance, hot sex between two people, then more screaming hot action between three people. There are tears, drama, laughter, and most of all, there is love between these three people who grow to be so much more together than they are apart. I recommend this for all who love hot romantic episodes, and I must warn you to have the cold drinks handy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hot Read....Hard Parts to Read 15 Aug 2011

I felt a little bad for one of the heroes in this book. Basically, a woman is best friends for 4 years with one guy and meets another that she begins to date and gives up on loving him. Then decides she wants both. Overall a good read (hence the three stars) but I had a hard time getting totally into it when the men seemed reluctant to share. I found myself feeling bad for the heroes and frustrated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Raising the Stakes 4 April 2011

Megan Loxley had loved her best friend, Desmond Reed, from afar. She is tired of waiting for him to notice her as more than a friend. Desmond unintentionally introduces Megan to Alex Truman at a party and the sparks fly between the two of them. Now Desmond is left on the outside looking in, watching the girl he could have had falling in love with the guy he is learning to hate. Reeling with his jealousy, Desmond is distancing himself from the two lovebirds. Megan is feeling the growing chasm between her and her best friend and doesn't know what to do. Finally events unfold and it looks as though Megan will get her cake and eat it too!

Raising the Stakes was a quick read that had some eye-opening parts that made this reviewer squirm a bit. The feelings that they all struggled with seemed to be on track and I liked the fact that they weighed their options before sealing their fate. It was a bit different to have an experienced, adventuresome heroine as opposed to the same in a hero, but that just added to the dynamics of the story.

Megan Loxley has spent four long years in love with her best friend, Desmond, but her feelings have never been reciprocated. Like any intelligent woman she doesn't want to grow old alone and admittedly she really enjoys sex so when she's introduced to Desmond's poker buddy, Alex, and the sparks immediately begin to fly she allows herself to open her heart to a future with him. What she doesn't expect is Desmond's cold attitude. He's not answering phone calls, doesn't spend any time with her, and the casual touches that made her feel special are a thing of the past.

Desmond Reed doesn't know how it happened... one minute Megan was simply his best friend, the next... she's the woman of his dreams and he wants marriage and children - with her. Of course, now it's too late, she's with his buddy Alex and it's obvious they're deliriously happy together which leave Desmond out in the cold and extremely surly.

Alex Truman loves Megan to the point of distraction and while he is aware of the close bond between her and Desmond he's never concerned himself with there being anything more friendship between them. At least that was the case until the evening Megan utters "I love you too, Desmond." Now there's no hiding from the truth, Megan loves Alex but she loves Desmond as well, choosing between the men would be impossible - and something she's not willing to do. Fortunately, at least as far as Alex is concerned, Desmond's never demonstrated any romantic interest in Megan, though his distraction recently seems to be a cause for concern for Megan. When she pushes him about his distant attitude one too many times, Desmond's control on his emotions snaps and Megan discovers he's not as immune to her charms as he'd have her think. Megan wants to RAISE THE STAKES and play the Queen to her two fine Kings, but how will the men in question react to such a drastic change in their relationship status?

RAISING THE STAKES is the second title in Jess Dee's THREE OF A KIND series and believe me she didn't skimp on the panty soaking sex scenes or emotional angst anywhere in this story. It's so easy to put people into categories and not realize your feelings for them until it's too late and that's exactly what happens to Desmond in this story so you almost want to feel bad for him. Honestly though I felt worse for Alex because his love for Megan is so strong and he had to feel a little rejected by the entire situation. Now that being said, I loved that Megan is blatantly honest about her feelings, and doesn't pretend to love one man over the other. She wants them both! It's a tenuous situation and it wouldn't take much for them all to get their hearts broken, but like poker, love is sometimes a game of chance and you have to go for broke and pray you win big.
