I bought this book expecting it to provide some practical and useful information about raising a Clydesdale Horse. For those not in the full picture of horse breeds, a Clydesdale is one of the 'Heavy Horse' group - the original land tractor and farm horse. The only connection that this book has with a Clydesdale is that the person who put it together, an american, included 2 opening pages (paperback novel size) covering a description of a Clydesdale horse which is available from the Clydesdale Horse Society. After these first two pages, there is no further information about Clydesdales and zero information about caring specifically for heavy horses. In fact, the breed is never mentioned again! It is a very general information booklet about 'how to muck out A HORSE', 'How to put a saddle on A HORSE', 'How to pick out the hooves of A HORSE' - a normal run of the mill horse NOT a heavy. It doesn't tell you that the hooves of a heavy are the size of large dinner plates and very heavy for one person to hold even when the horse is co-operating! There is a specific technique for foot care of a heavy and there is absolutely no mention of this in the book. I was very cross to have paid for this load of tripe. I feel that I was totally conned but on the other hand, it did make me realise that since owning 2 Clydesdales, I know a helluva lot more than I though I did! DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK.
