Product Description

Product Description

The wonderful wooden peg puzzle from the Very Hungry Caterpillar range by Eric Carle is the perfect gift and ideal way to keep your toddler entertained and learning new things. The VHC Peg Puzzle comes with 5 peg puzzle pieces. Each has a number on it to encourage your toddler to start counting. Each Puzzle piece has a little peg perfect for your little one's little fingers to encourage fine motor co-ordination. There is a little surprise underneath each puzzle piece. Each picture has an image that represents the number that is written on the puzzle piece that covers it. All the images are taken from the images in the original story book – The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The front of the Peg Puzzle is the image of the Hungry Caterpillar. With his green body, his red head and purple feelers you have some very bright colours to help stimulate your toddler’s recognition of colours. The little Pegs are in bright red. The entire puzzle measures 30cm x 22.5cm x 0.8cm. It is surface washable.

5.0 out of 5 stars An asset to the Eric Carle collection!!! 15 Jun 2011

A fantastic product to engage young children and beautifully themed with The Very Hungry Caterpillar series. This was a present for my 10 month old son and he absolutely loves it! A perfect present to grow with to help teach counting, shapes and problem solving and to tie in with the other resources. I will definitely be buying this product for birthday presents.

This is very well made, and frankly; adorable. My little one has no problems using this puzzle due to the large sizes of the pieces, bright colours and pegs. An ideal gift for a young Hungry Caterpillar fan.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good toy but disappointed with quality 8 May 2013

I bought this puzzle thinking that you would get the quality from a branded puzzle - Wrong!! Two of the numbers stick an awful lot as they have not been sanded down - was going to send it back but hubby said he will sand it before I give it to my little girl.....

However, once it is done I think she will love this as she loves the Very Hungry Caterpillar, and also these puzzles.....

One of my other pet peeves (and this is with different peg puzzles, not just this one) is the shapes don't always go in all ways - very frustrating for a 19 month old...... How hard is it to make the triangle equilateral!!!!

I thought this toy was a bit too easy, and I did it in seconds. It was at this point my wife pointed out it was meant for our Grandson, which puts a different perspective on things...

The child is required to associate shapes with holes, and simultaneously written numbers in association with quantity (pictures of 1, 2, 3 etc., fruit behind the numbered blocks). In the child's mind it may be that a circle is called two, or a square five, hence this is a toy which needs an adult to participate to gain maximum educational benefit. I can't help but feel this can be achieved more objectively without buying a toy. Like "tell me how many chocolate buttons there are and you can have them...". But then there seems to be a movement in the family to have him call me "Grumps" instead of "Grandad". Maybe they're the better critics.
