5.0 out of 5 stars Radiating At Last, 11 Dec 2006
Fantastic! Last episode the blazing light at the end of the tunnel turned out to be China, rising like a phoenix: a sidebar that's been muttering on the sidelines since "Bold As Love" the first. In what might be a fantasy road map of our real future, the Chinese are bound to win the game of world domination, having done a Pearl Harbour on the crumbling USA to forestall another insane use of the Neurobomb. But the way the Triumvirate tackle the situation, with the bizarre technology of "mind/matter physics" woven into the plot, is continually unexpected, raunchy, inventive and disconcerting, right to the last twist. Evocative landscapes, dry humour; the trio and friends as before. Plus some new, terrific secondary characters, like Norman Soong the trannie Chinese Rock impresario, and the planet destroyer in ballet shoes, Elder Sister (worth the price of admission alone). Cold-blooded, warm-hearted, and really really intelligent, Gwyneth Jones is a great storyteller. The whole Bold As Love series is a feast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic From Start To Finish, 1 Dec 2006

Fans of the Rock and Roll Reich won't be disappointed by the last addition to the "Bold As Love" series. Gwyneth Jones once again transports us to an all too believable England of the near future.

I was captivated from the first page, wrapped up in the lives of my favourite characters. I did have one problem with "Rainbow Bridge" - I found it very difficult to get up in the mornings because I was reluctant to put the book down at night!

1.0 out of 5 stars Noooooooooo !, 30 Mar 2009

Having been attracted to read this by the comparison to Iain Banks on the cover, I was thoroughly disappointed. The storyline wanders about without getting anywhere, there is no crafted ending to tie the threads together, the characters just do not have enough depth to be able to start relating to them. This is the only time I have had to force myself to see a book through to the end in the hope that it would get better. In fact, such is the annoyance of this book, I am resorting to issuing this review as a catarthic measure so I can hopefully put it all behind me.
