Erasure Back to their Best,
By Chaz Foley (PsalmFoley@aol.co.uk) (Southend, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rain Plus (Audio CD)
After the relative failure of 1997's 'Cowboy' album, I was left feeling a little despondant. The once Great Erasure had been reduced to a top 20 hit and little else. However, when flicking through Amazon's listings for the 80s supergroup, i dicovered an overlooked gem in the form of Rain, and extended single. i snapped it up immediatley, and was not disappointed. The majority of songs are superb and thoughtful reworkings of classic Erasure hits ('Sometimes' and 'Love to Hate You'), which was fair enough. However, in amongst this was a song called 'First Contact': a more breathtaking and brilliant song i have not heard in a long while. It renewed my waning faith in Erasure, and shows thay can still make a fantastic song when they want to. The only real downside of the EP is the inclusion of several remixes of the same song, where adding a fresh turn on one of the other songs from Cowboy, such as 'Reach Out' would have been more more appropriate. Nonetheless, a great album

Clarke / Bell 80's talent meets the nighties....,
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com

A mixture of remixes from'Cowboy' and 'Pop', live tracks and new tracks. The synthesizer magic of Erasure is made even better by the addition of some carefully placed bass beats, with the live tracks showing they have real talent. 'First Contact' (yes, as in Star Trek)is a scorcher. Instrumental version is hidden track 11. Buy It!

Brilliant maxi-single for a great pop song!,
By David Seguin "djzilla" - Published on Amazon.com

Rain Plus is so obviously a fan release. Being that it is a maxi-single without even the original version of the song (gotta get Cowboy folks or another version of Rain single) there was no chance for this song to chart in UK. However, that doesn't mean this single isn't worth buying. In fact, this is probably the best maxi-single I've seen in years! Not only do you get some great mixes of Rain (my personal favorite is Blue Amazon Twisted Circles Mix), you get two mixes of In My Arms and a fantastic remix of an Erasure classic "Sometimes". Also you get 3...count em, THREE live tracks as well as a b-side. "First Contact" was written for the Star Trek Next Gen film of the same name. Its a great song and the fact that you get it and the instrumental version as a hidden track make this purchase worth while. All in all it may seem expensive...believe me it's worth every penny you spend. A great single from a great band!

ONE OF THE BEST BY ONE OF IF NOT THE BEST!,
By Amriel - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Rain Plus (Audio CD)
this is perhaps the best Erasure album ever made and is a very good idea to buy if you can find it because it is getting more and more scarce as time goes by...it has some of Erasure's best remixes of any single ever released including an incredible version of an early hit "Sometimes" and lots of excellent "trance" remixes of the title track "Rain"...the B-side track "First Contact" is very interesting and there is a "hidden bonus track #11" on the cd of an instrumental version of it.
