Synopsis
This is no ordinary storm ...Ben and his family move in to a French house cloaked by storm clouds. The walls fail to keep out intruders. Warnings appear. There is an accident. There is death. There is rain. Much rain. This is Conrad Williams' new novella. Remember to breathe. Conrad Williams was born in 1969 and has been in print since 1988. He has sold around 80 short stories to a diverse range of publications and anthologies. He is the author of three novels, 'Head Injuries', 'London Revenant' and 'The Unblemished'; three novellas, 'Nearly People', 'Game' and 'The 'Scalding Rooms'; and a collection of short stories, 'Use Once then Destroy'. He is a past recipient of the Littlewood Arc Prize and the British Fantasy Award. 5.0 out of 5 stars Check the weather report..., 18 Dec 2007
Conrad has managed to create a horror tale filled with emotion - something that seems to be a rarity these days. Focusing more on the collapse of relationships than the depravity suffusing the landscape (Note: wonderful description of the weather) he manages to keep you guessing as to what's going behind the rain whilst ensuring you feel every last ounce of the main character's angst. It's a clever tale, wonderfully told, and leaves you wanting more. I'm now searching out for a copy of Head Injuries, the author's first novel.
