Railway traffic & operation, Workington to Penrith., 5 Jun 2001
By A Customer
Describes the railway traffic and operation, for the lines between Workington and Penrith via Cockermouth and Keswick.About 160 pages, with separate chapters covering Mineral & Industrial traffic, Passenger traffic, Bridges, Permanent way, Signalling and gas lighting, Operational aspects, Locomotive story, Senior and specialist staff, and concluding with The glory of Lakeland's northern railway. Liberally illustrated with photographs ranging from the 19th century to those nearer the closure of services. The photos are complemented by well considered and researched text. Companion volume to Volume 1, by the same author, which described the railway line. Excellent value paperback book.
