4.0 out of 5 stars Ayato on the run. 23 Sep 2009
By @GeekZilla9000 TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
This volume contains three episodes (17 - 19) of the series.

The episode starts with a perfect example of how Ayato is considered by some as a lower life form not worthy of the basic rights enjoyed by the other members of society when orders are given to stop him from escaping even if it means killing him. This prejudice has been present for the last few epsiodes, but it is only now that we get to see the true ugliness of this narrow-minded view.

With Haruka following Ayato, he is obviously important to her and she finally reveals why she feels so fond of him as we learn more about their history. Ayato is on his own little adventure in this volume and spends some time with an old flame. We get some emotional moments on this disk and we get to see Ayato in surroundings more familiar to us the viewer, though things change quickly by the end of episode 19.

As before, there is action - but not much, the series is still very much focussed on the characters Volume 5 does provide us with the best views of the RahXephon so far in the series, especially when it runs on auto-pilot.

In a nutshell: Many questions are answered in these three episodes, but you are still left with more questions - what's going on with Quon?!! With only two more volumes left you'd expect this to perhaps start becoming predictable and hurtling towards a conclusion you saw coming ages ago - but no, I still have no idea how this will end and if anything the story is becoming more involved rather than slowing down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly horrifying.... 26 April 2004
...is the only way to put it. If you've been following the series withintrest like I have, you will be utterly rocked by this volume. There areonly three episodes on it, (or Orchestrations as they're called,) buteveryone of them is filled with revelations that WILL shock you if you'vebeen following- so it's not a place to start, if you're new to the series. Ayato's search for truths about himself, the RaXehphon and his mother isspread across the first two episodes, which make you feel shock and dismayat the poor guy's predicaments. The third episode, which is the 19th inthe series, sees Ayato and an old friend (shhh: you'll see) trying to makesense of it all, and it all finishes in the most horrifying way possible-like I say, if you've been following it all, you WILL be absolutelyshell-shocked.
All in all, a great addition to the series, which youreally need to buy!
