Product Description

Michael Tobias' work of fiction is a shocking, breath-stopping political thriller which tracks the fury of an outraged ex-Special Forces veteran who turns to violent retribution in defense of the earth and its fauna. Rage and Reason is an unstoppable rollercoaster of action which explodes across four continents - a chief executive's severed head is served up at a stockholder's luncheon...a furrier is skinned alive...Thai poachers are deftly eliminated...and the first day of hunting season in the Maine woods is turned into a human massacre. Rage and Reason is as vivid a portrayal of the horrors of vivisection and the meat industry as Upton Sinclair's classic The Jungle. "A terrific story, told from the heart, its soul rich with knowledge. Some people and corporations should lose sleep wondering if RAGE & REASON will ever become a real life thriller for them." -Ingrid E. Newkirk, President, PETA - People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals

This book is the awful truth about how human beings manipulate and torture animals. But this is not to say that the book is contantly depressing, as my hero's Felham and Muppet; superb animal activists, take revenge against all those blood chilling, heartless b**t**ds. If you love animals and do not distinguish between us and them then read this book. Please get through the heartache at the beginning of the book, as the rest is mainly the reward.

Don't be put off by the verbose authors note which begins this book. What follows is utterly compelling, especially if, like me, you've ever fantasized about taking revenge on people who hurt animals.
This is the first work I've come across by this author, I gather he normally produces more sober material (I've ordered a copy of his highly regarded World War 3). This book is a cracking thriller as well as an impassioned plea to end factory farming and animal experiments.
Ultimately it asks you whose side you're on, but I suppose, sadly, is unlikely to be read by carnivorous types.

A Suberbly Radical Political Thriller 21 Aug 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is a riveting tale of a revolutionary out for justice. A mind-numbing mixture of intrigue, suspense, romance and comedy while two bumbling FBI agents struggle in vain to apprehend their fugitive. An ex-Special Forces veteran's crusade against the American culture of violence against our nonhuman brethren enlightens the reader with eye-opening detail, enhanced by surprise humor, depending on the reader's perspective. In a timely format, nearly ripped from the headlines, Tobias explores the most vile aspects of humanity, spiced up by a sensuous love affair between the hero/fugitive and a reluctant sympathizer.

A unique amalgam of Ingrid Newkirk's Free the Animals; Terry Gilliam's film, 12 Monkeys; and the action/adventure of Indiana Jones and James Bond, Rage & Reason will do for animal rights what The Monkey Wrench Gang did for ecology. Tobias' Felham is a radical Holden Caulfield (of Catcher in the Rye fame) for the 1990's with a mission to save Mother Earth.

Animal exploiters of the world might heed Felham's warning: Hell no hath no fury like a woman scorned. That woman is Mother Nature, and She's pretty irate.

Not Since Dostoevsky's Crime & Punishment.... 23 Jan 2012
By Jane G Morrison - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Tobias has written a novel of such profoundly challenging emotions as to utterly re-invent nature writing. It is a deeply disturbing, enlightening, uplifting and exquisite tale that somehow combines Bambi, Green Mansions, and Crime & Punishment.

There was never an animal rights literary genre prior to this book. Yes, there was Bambi, Aesop's Fables, Shelley's Vindication of a Natural Diet, and the like. But Tobias takes these deeply-held convictions to a level that is so frightening and real as to force decision making in one's own life. That is rare. Everyone needs to read this major work of literature.
The Most Fantastic Animal Rights Novel Ever Written 2 Dec 2011

I am an unabashed fan of Michael Charles Tobias and am not about to give away one iota of the plot-line. Only to say that if you care about life, about animal protection, about the environment, and about great literature, then Rage & Reason is a MUST READ! (It would also be a MUST MOVIE!!!)
