Rage Against the Machine...the name of the band says everything about their style. Pounding beats, amazing riffs, and completely rage filled lyrics and singing-these are some of the things that make Rage Against the Machine so compelling. There is NO filler in this album, it just pounds and rages through the entire length. Anarchy is a constant feature in Rage Against the Machine's songs, especially in this album. Songs like 'Killing in the name of' and 'know your enemy' show exactly how this works. For example, 'F*** you i wont do what you tell me' in 'Killing in the name of' pretty much underlines the entire band's purpose; stirring up controversy while keeping musical elements in their songs. The bands name says a lot about their style - the name is a term for rebelling against the authority, and their music surely proves that the name is rightfully used. Zach De la Rocha's singing/rapping goes very well with the band's heavy baselines and beats. Though this CD is around 15 years old, it still seems as fresh as ever. I think it is a great pity that the band broke up, and even though the remaining members (everyone minus Zach De la Rocha) of Rage against the Machine went on to form Audioslave, Audioslave much less controversial, and (in my opinion) their lyrics and baselines a lot less powerful.

An extraordinary album. 18 April 2006

This incendiary debut album by RATM introduced us both to the always-inventive guitar work of Tom Morello and the profane but passionate rhyming of Zak de la Rocha. They never bettered it, and few other people did as well.

This album puts most rap-rock to shame, basically. Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, they all got it from here and were mere, poor imitators of the masters. Weighing in at just 10 tightly-wound tracks, there is not a duff song on it. 'Killing In The Name Of' is the sweary anthem that got them on started; I find it's best heard on headphones, as the mix is so broken down that you can hear every note each band members plays. The song, and the album, is so stripped down but so powerful at the same time, a testament to the musicianship of the band.

De la Rocha was positively overflowing with bile (and still is), on songs like 'Freedom', and 'Take The Power Back.' The most famous song here is probably 'Wake Up,' the eminently brilliant song that closes the first Matrix film in classy style. It was a great track long before it was used on that soundtrack, and on the follow up movie, a latter-day song, 'Calm Like A Bomb' was used for the same purpose; it failed miserably.

They spent four years working on the massively disappointing follow-up to this. But in truth, they were never going to manage to follow up this rap-metal masterpiece. An extraordinary band, and an extraordinary album.

I watched The Matrix and at the end when Neo puts down the payphone there is a warm blast of the intro to Wake Up. That's why I bought Rage Against The Machine. I first bought the soundtrack with it on and thought their album has to be as good as this song. I was right. I bought it having only heard Wake Up, my fave song ever! Tne entire album is a gem. Each song different from the last. Each song unique. Each song ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! I rate every track on the album 10/10 as they are amazing, all of them. For anyone who likes rock, you will totally love this! There are loads of solos form Tom Morello. They are all fantastic! He's probably the most talented Guitar player ive seen ever. The Bass from Tim Commerford is just outstanding. These are aided by excellent drumming by Brad and catchy lyrics by Zack.
This is the best album i have ever bought. There is nothing like it in the whole wide world! kudos to you Rage! I take my hat off to you sirs!
