Book Description

23 Aug 1999 Art of Crafts
Rag rugs have been a feature of homes in the UK and the USA since the middle of the 19th century. Warm and hard-wearing, they can be made from recycled clothes, blankets, or any other textiles that may be lying around. Designs and colours vary from subtle natural patterns to bold, bright rugs, showing the versatility of the craft. Ann Davies describes the various techniques used, including hand techniques of hooky and proddy, and a plethora of gadgets designed to make the job easier. Illustrated in colour, the book also includes advice on dyeing fabrics in the microwave, cutting by hand or other methods, and working with or without a frame, and discusses different backing materials and ways of finishing rug edges.

Interesting read and excellent pics and informative in a broad general way. Found constant references to "traditional" methods etc. confusing, the traditional methods vary from area to area and country to country.

5.0 out of 5 stars RAG RUGS by Ann Davies...a repeat publication, different cover 19 Aug 2005
By KAREN M. MANASCO - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Though this book in itself is wonderful, it is the same exact

book as "Contemporary Crafts / Rag Rugs" also written by Ann Davies.

The subject book features has a cover featuring a black cat,

a pot of tulips and a chair with a denim rag rug on it.

Contemporary Crafts Rag Rugs portrays blue,

red and other colors in a sunburst pattern over the entire front cover.

CONTEMPORARY CRAFTS - New Holland Publishers

RAG RUGS - Henry and Holt Co. Publishers

(A chair with a denim rug and a black cat on cover)

HOW TO USE ANCIENT AND MODERN RUG

MAKING TECHNIQUES TO CREATE RUGS, WALLHANGINGS,

EVEN JEWELRY - 12 PROJECTS.

Sadly, for those wishing to add to their collection, these

books are one and the same, so having but one in your library is sufficient.

4.0 out of 5 stars Home Made Rugs 4 Jun 2014

There are nice pictures with clear instructions in this book. There isn't anything that you can't find on Pintrest though so it was mildly disappointing.
