Product Description

Raffles The Gentleman Thief returns in this magnificent third instalment of Richard Foreman's new series based upon the adventures of one of the classic characters of British fiction.

In Raffles: A Perfect Wicket, Bunny is worried for his great friend. Since the disappearance of Mary Flanagan (the events of which are contained in the story Raffles: Bowled Over) Raffles has grown despondent, sick with boredom.

Thankfully a remedy is found, in the form of an invite to a party. The host is Lord Rosebery no less. Raffles considers the opportunity to be "a perfect wicket" in terms of the the spoils to be had, and hatches a plan to rob the former Prime Minister.

Yet Lord Rosebery has also invited another guest up from London, a senior policeman, who confesses to Bunny that he has been tipped off that a notorious burglar will be attempting to rob the house over the weekend of the party.

Richard Foreman's Raffles Series has been widely praised:

‘A capital story! Strong characters, sparkling dialogue, a plot with a twist as the gentleman thief plies his trade again. Devotees of the original stories will rejoice at his return: new fans will greet a fresh hero and wait impatiently for more adventures. Raffles, burglar extraordinaire, master cricketer, welcome back to The Albany!’ David Dickinson, author of The Lord Powerscourt Mysteries.

In Praise of Raffles: Bowled Over:

'This story is not only a joy because of the wonderful characterizations of Raffles and Bunny, but the ret of the ensemble is both amusing and full of personality.I found myself often laughing with Raffles and cringing with Bunny at the various people they encounter. The casual mention of real people like H.G.Wells, Winston Churchill and the famous sportsman C.B.Fry - here a friend of Raffles - naturally brings authenticity to the story, and you really do feel like you're witnessing history first hand.' Dawn, The Baker Street Babes

5.0 out of 5 stars Once Again Raffles Engages and Entertains 19 Mar 2012

Absolutely fantastic continuation of the Raffles The Gentleman Thief series. Though the novels can stand alone, reading the series in succession allowed me to see the character development and added depth of this third installment. Bunny continues as a wonderful narrator, ever worried about Raffles, who began dispirited but rose to his typical lively craftiness in his aim to steal from the former Prime Minister. Though Mary Flanagan is absent, the introduction of Lucy Rosebery provides another truly engaging female. As before, the freshness of Foreman's writing modernises the world of Raffles for today's reader, making the novella an immensely enjoyable and funny read (perhaps the funniest yet!). With just enough of a twist and action, this short novella keeps you engaged until the last word. Definitely recommend this and the whole series to any fan of historical crime fiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and Touching 11 Mar 2012

The funniest and most touching Raffles story yet. Although Raffles: A Perfect Wicket works as a stand alone story there is an added depth and context to the piece should you have read the other books in the series. Bunny is as endearing as ever and again, in the form of Lucy Rosebery, the author adds an attractive female character to his cast. As ever there is a surprise ending. As ever the dialogue and wit are particularly enjoyable. As ever Raffles charms and confounds.

I enjoyed this novella immensely. I remember Raffles on the TV when I was a child, but I haven't read any of the stories. I found this very amusing, particularly enjoying the appearance of Inspector Lestrade and the mention of Sherlock Holmes. I would definitely like to read more of Raffles and Bunny's adventures.
