5.0 out of 5 stars Radio Control Helicopters, 23 Aug 2005

A little dated by the time I read it in 2005, but very useful none the less. Full of helpful advice, plus do and don'ts of model flying. It also put to rest some of the older ideas about flying this type of model, like don't try and get someone to hold the tail towards you with a piece of string. You will probably end up nearly killing them. Yes there is some dark humour in there as well.

I also liked the fact that most of the book was put in beginners terms, which I am, although I will have to keep it as reference and read it later. So I am quite happy with my purchase and can thouroughy recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well written but out of date., 4 Sep 2007
This was an excellent book in 1996. In 2007 its badly in need of a re-write. Its coverage of electric flight, 2.4GHz radios, HH gyros and simulators is misleading or entirely absent.

Buy it and read it - but find additional info elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars A well written and comprehensive guide for all heli fliers., 1 Dec 2000

This review is from: Radio Controlled Helicopters: The Guide to Building and Flying Radio Control Helicopters (Paperback)
Nick Papillon has written this book with a great deal of thought. Every relevant consideration, in what is a very challenging and skill intensive hobby, is well explained in a way that will appeal to both those of a non-technical background, and also readers who require a more theoretical content. The text is complimented by lots of photographs and diagrams, which help in understanding some of the more complex issues discussed. There is, of course, no substitute for actually 'doing the thing', but this book has doubtless saved me both cash and stress by helping me to become more informed and practically confident. This up to date book is essential reading for anyone contemplating investing in building and flying model helicopters, as well as the more 'seasoned' novice. Something for everyone.
