Product Description

Say what you like about BBC Radio 1, its DJs or its playlists, they’re definitely getting one thing right through their commitment to live music--particularly with regards to the often quirky fruits that tumble forth from its Live Lounge. Volume 3 of the double CD collections from these sessions arrives packed with more than enough in the way of gems to offset the few inevitable run-of-the-mill single performances. Those justifying the format when modifying their own tracks include Kasabian working "Sympathy for the Devil" into "LSF", Duffy bringing some grit to a stripped down "Mercy", absent as she’s trotted it out endlessly elsewhere, and a bare, emotional "Daddy’s Gone" from Glasvegas. The real value of the set though is found in amongst Girls Aloud’s sensitive version of "With Every Heartbeat" (originally by Robyn), Ida Maria’s feisty "Sweet About Me" (Gabriella Cilmi), REM sketching "Munich" (Editors) out with mandolin refinement, Kate Nash absolutely owning a cute, giddy "Fluorescent Adolescent" (Arctic Monkeys), Goldfrapp’s haunting "It’s Not Over Yet" (Grace--made famous again by Klaxons), Santogold’s paranoid and chilling take on "Hometown Glory" (Adele) and Bat for Lashes’ pulsing, minimalist "Sweet Dreams" (Eurhythmics). If you’re looking for one single convincing reason to own this though, look no further than Dizzee Rascal’s bench-press solid, somersault swaggering, air-punching attitude-laden re-jigging of the Ting Tings’ "That’s Not My Name". It’s enough to justify the licence fee. --James Berry

BBC Review

"They call me Blood, they call me Rude-boy, they call me Oi, they call me Mate. That's not my name," belts out Dizzee Rascal as he reworks The Ting Tings' number one hit That's Not My Name. Really, you should buy Radio 1's Live Lounge- Volume 3 for this cover alone. But that would be silly.

There are several other reasons that make this double disc of 40 live tracks (covers and classics) good. Sadly, there are several more that make it bad. The glaring problem with the Live Lounge series is that its quirkiness doesn't transfer well on to record. Live on radio or, better still, on stage, Elliot Minor covering Take That's Rule The World has the power to wow. In your car, it simply makes the listener remark, 'Oh yes, that's clever'. In other words, you may find yourself spinning this compilation twice, maybe thrice, then becoming considerably 'over it'.

Thankfully, there are several exceptions to this rule, namely The Hoosiers' stunning delivery of Justin Timberlake's Lovestoned- breathtaking, live or otherwise. Meanwhile Girls Aloud step up their game and defy the most miserable critique with their brilliant rendition of Robyn's With Every Heartbeat and the Pigeon Detectives make Hot Chip's Ready For The Floor totally their own. The real red herring, however, is Goldfrapp's cover of It's Not Over Yet by Grace. Who'd have thought even the classiest act could make this cheese sound so good.

Of the smaller minority of original material (performed and recorded live), Duffy's Mercy, Kasabian's LSF and Ne-Yo's Closer gleam.

A highly enjoyable compilation, if only for a couple of listens. --Elle J Small

5.0 out of 5 stars another winner from jo whiley! 10 Oct 2008
Format:Audio CD
i got a promo of this album to review and it's every bit as good as the previous two. maybe a bit better than the last one. the ting tings track is a highlight, as is pendulum, and dizzee rascal. there's an old gem on there from athlete - a beautiful version of 'wires'. all the big acts from this year are present - duffy, adele, elbow, glasvegas, the script (covering eminem's 'lose yourself') and scouting for girls.
get it, and you won't regret it...

4.0 out of 5 stars They call me rudeboy, they call me blad... 9 Nov 2008
Format:Audio CD
As always, the live lounge is a mixture of artists doing covers and their own songs. The best tracks on this year's cds are Dizzee Rascal doing the Ting Tings 'thats not my name' and the Script doing 'lose yourself'. Scouting for Girls kill their own song, and some covers are too close to the original song to really warrant doing it, if you know what i mean, but most tracks are great, and a select few are amazingly good. get this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice set 20 Feb 2013

Having already purchased live lounge 1 and 2 I decided to purchase this - the next cd in the series. There are 40 songs on 2 cd's and there is something for everyone on these. A particular favourite of mine was 'blinded by the lights - by the streets. Overall very good and on a par with the first two live lounge cd's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 7 Nov 2011
Format:Audio CD
Live Lounge is great. Definitely worth the money (especially with the Amazon price and free delivery).
Volume 3 is one of the better ones, the combination of more acoustic tracks and covers is superb (I own the first 5 and will be buying the 6th). It also gives you the chance to hear lots of artists and see which you might want to hear more of.Added in that it is a double CD and its a no brainer.

Takes a few listens before you get into it. Not as instantly loveable as the first two volumes. Some ace tracks on disc 2 though.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different take on music 27 Oct 2010
Format:Audio CD
Love the Live Lounge series because you get the chance to hear artists sng other peoples songs, sometimes with surprising results. The series gives you a different perspective on artists, their music and their abilities. They also introduce you to artists you may be unfamiliar with.

Not only did mans journey into space peak between 1969 and 1972 during which the 12 (only what ? 8 left alive) men who walked on the moon did their stuff : music also peaked during those years. The rest is just winding down and fiddling about. 15 1 hour ago
