...but also an amazing manual for living.

The fact that Kelly Turner is a scientist mattered to me in choosing the book. I have always seen myself as a rationalist who believes in scientific enquiry to understand the mysteries of life. I always avoid books which sound like a load of old hippy mumbo jumbo. I admit I was sceptical when I read the contents but given I was searching Amazon on the train on the way to get an ultrasound on a strange lump in my neck I thought what the heck!

The lump turned out to be nothing but I thought I would read it anyway. Boy was I glad I did. Turner's style is easy and engaging but also seems to give incredible credibility to the hippy mumbo jumbo stuff like reiki, spiritual healing etc. So much so that I am now convinced there is something in these and I am very excited to be learning more.

This book therefore is not a just a book that proves cancer can be beat - no matter how bad and therefore an amazing source of hope and inspiration to sufferers, but I also see this as a manual for life. Maybe if we were exposed to these ideas early in our lives in our Western culture, we wouldn't be as sick as we are. Its never too late to learn. By following these nine principles, I hope to avoid cancer in the future.

Read the book whether you have cancer or not and then share the love with anyone and everyone you come across who does. I have released my inner hippy and am so much happier for it!

As a cancer survivor I wish I had read this book before all the other things I have read about recovering from cancer. It is not one of those poorly researched books offering a magic solution to serious health problems but a well-written and serious look at the factors involved in surviving cancer. What the author (a well-respected academic) did was talk to a large group of people who had survived cancer in spite of receiving a terminal diagnosis from the medical profession. These people were simply asked how they accounted for their unexpected recovery and specifically what they did to help them turn their health around. The result was a list of about 80 factors, including some distinctly wacky things like taking ground-up shark cartilage. But a core group of nine factors were repeatedly cited and it is these that are looked at in detail, This is not a scientific approach in the sense of doing a medical study with control groups and people taking placebo treatments, but a simple, and rather clever, look at a group of people who, for whatever reason, did not die when the medical profession expected them to. This isn't an anti-medicine book. Many of the people studied did in fact adopt their alternative approaches instead of conventional treatment, but Dr Turner is scrupulous not to put promote this as the way forward. My take on all this is that we should accept everything that medical science has to offer us but not leave it at that. There is so much we can do for ourselves that can radically improve our chances of long-term survival and a good quality of life. If you have cancer, or are close to someone who has, I wholeheartedly recommend that you read Dr Kelly's book. It's not heavy going and it provides an excellent starting point for considering what you can do for yourself that is likely to make a real difference to your life.

Another interesting book in my quest to rid my body of TWO tumours myself. On the road to winning with lots of help from everywhere except the blinkered UK health service who (sadly) can only use knives or chemicals....thank you

This is an inspiring read. Highly recommended for anyone with cancer and for those who know someone with cancer. The author points out what elements are part of a cancer survivors 'toolbox'-- radically changing your diet, taking control of your health, following your intuition, using herbs and supplements, increasing positive emotions, embracing social support, deepening your spiritual connection and having strong reasons for living. There are many stories shared from those who have survived their cancer. This should be required reading for oncologists too!

This is an excellent book if you want to know how to help yourself when you have cancer. Extensively researched and boiled down to the nine most frequently quoted actions that cancer patients took in effecting a radical (not spontaneous) remission, it shows that taking control of your own health is definitely worth doing. I would highly recommend it as a way forward for anyone who is experiencing cancer treatment in the conventional way. Ultimately, as those who Kelly Turner interviews say, it is your body, your choice, your responsibility as how you want to take the journey.
