Lebbeus Woods is widely regarded as the most exciting and original architectural visionary today. His body of theoretical work and extraordinary drawings have served as inspiration for architects, artists, and legions of students.
Radical Reconstruction contains projects from the last five years that address the relationships between architecture and war, political revolution/reaction, and natural disasters. Three projects--for Sarajevo, Havana, and San Francisco--define new approaches to the reconstruction of buildings and urban fabric damaged by unpredictable and largely uncontrollable forces of both human and natural origin. Such transformations are not only of physical structures and spaces but, more significantly, of the ways of living they sustain. The majority of these renderings of dazzling color and creativity have never been published or exhibited before.
Neil Spiller, Architectural Design
Radical Reconstruction is an apt title. It takes us on a journey -- some paths are implied, some are explicit --that questions and reformulates architecture's constituent parts. One by one meaning, function, representation, abstraction, et al, are run through the mill and recast within the contexts of war and cataclysmic social and physical fracture... This book is a critique against the rhetoric of reductivism and minimalism. This is 'full on' maximist architecture. It is an acknowledgement that the practice of architecture exists within a beautiful complexity.
Tom Avermaete, Archis
This book is a must. In the first instance because of the renegade character of the work presented, but principally for the erudite philosophical foundation that underpins each project. Rarely does architecture get anchored so extremely and so credibly in the ideological matrix of which it is part...In a discourse characterized by an increasing disbelief in social significance, Woods' work forms a radical but extremely welcome counterpoint.

Fantastic pics. And more to think about than I could digest in one reading. Excellent.

Not his best, but still good 21 Nov. 2001
By "commoner03" - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Lebbeus Woods is perhaps unequalled, and definitely the most imitated renderer in the architectural world. With that said, this book is just a shadow of his masterpiece, "Anarchitecture: Architecture as a Political Act"
I recommend this for thos who already know Woods and can't get enough of him, but as an introduction, definitely read Anarchitecture.

woods is brilliant 9 Jun. 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
lebbeus woods' visions cross the border between real and apocalyptic. his highly evocative renderings are rooted in his surrounding environment, but they move us to the realm of fantasmic architecture. brilliant.

Great collection of his work 2 Mar. 2013

As an architecture student this is a great book to get some insight on his ideas and have excellent examples of his work. The SFMOMA exhibit has alot of the work in this book and I'm glad because I thought some of these would have been harder to find.

A new architecture is possible 10 May 2013
By Cifre - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Since architecture exists we've been concerned with the renowal of itself. From baroque to contemporary architecture through modernism, we've been looking for new languages, always moving forward, with more or less success. Lebbeus Woods takes this research to a whole new level. His approaches to such controversial topics as the role of architecture in cities devastated by war are simply brilliant. Minds like his are the ones pushing forward architecture.
amazing mind 28 Jun. 2014

His images are breathtakingly inventive. Highly impractical but who cares? Woods is more of an artist that a "visionary architect." I saw the exhibition in NY and was inspired in many ways. Years ago he spoke here and was quite a pill in the question and answer period. According to his gallery dealer, he was a handful to deal with as well. If you are vaguely interested in his work, teaching drawing, architecture or art, you should have this book in your library. It has great reproductions.
