Sometimes When We Lose It All, We Find Our True Radiance

Radiant Survivor: How to Shine and Thrive through Recovery from Stroke, Cancer, Abuse, Addiction and Other Life-Altering Experiences is a book about healing. It is a wellspring of hope, inspiration and encouragement to anyone facing trauma in their life.

The book contains stories from author Erica Tucci along with 14 other everyday heroes who, against all odds, survived and thrived after tragedy shook their lives to the core. It also contains a wealth of life lessons and practical exercises that will show you how to:

  • Believe in yourself and never give up
  • Understand the limiting beliefs that hold you back
  • Be grateful and have the right attitude
  • Surrender and let go
  • Establish your support system
  • See recovery as a transformative process
  • Get "real" about the possibility of not recovering
  • Understand the impact of trauma on families, friends and caregivers

But most of all, Radiant Survivor will help you understand how your experience is part of your sacred contract with the Divine, and how trauma can help you find out what is really important in life.

"Erica Tucci touches on a subject I am all too well aware of. Her story is mine. She brings the reader through the realities and frustrations of suffering a life-threatening illness but adds that ray of light at the end of that dark tunnel, as hope is always there if you believe and find your own true strength."
~ KEVIN SORBO (aka "Hercules" on hit TV show)
Actor, Director, Producer, and Author of True Strength

"Survivors have common qualities and are an excellent resource for all of us. They become our life coaches and help us to learn from our experiences and be guided by them. Erica's experience can help us all to learn about survivor behavior and thriving in difficult times."
~ BERNIE SIEGEL, MD
Author of A Book of Miracles and The Art of Healing

More About the Author

I was born into an artistic family. My father was first chair bassoonist in the Houston Symphony for 22 years before his passing in 1982. My mom was a voice major at Yale University when she was younger, and then a diction coach for the Houston Grand Opera as well as being a professor of French at the University of Houston where she still teaches. I was a ballet dancer and pianist in my previous life and attended High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Although I thought my destiny was to become a ballerina after high school, I instead quit cold turkey after two subsequent intense years of professional training, and went to college and received a business degree at the University of Houston. Figure that one out! We never know what the Universe has in store for us.

So off to college I went where I met my (ex)husband and acquired my first job at IBM as a system engineer. I then progressed to Compaq Computer Corporation where I went from marketing to technical writing, and that is where my writing journey began. Well, let me step back a bit. I had written poetry since my early teens, but writing became a deep passion for me in my early adulthood, especially when my two sons were born in 1989 and 1992, respectively.

I wrote and published my first book Moms and Their Young Spirited Boys in 1998, which became a finalist in the Houston Writer's Conference the same year. I then began my novel Anything is Possible, originally entitled The Image. It was a beautiful love story. However, due to the "busyness" of my life, I put it away, to be forgotten until 2007 when the theme of the story manifested into reality. Imagine how that felt...that I had actually created my own reality unknowingly. Again, the Universe must have been at work again. I revived it and completed it in 2010, leaving it open-ended for a sequel. And I will say that the story isn't over!

In the meantime, in 1999, when I turned 40, I began my third book Zesty Womanhood at 40 and Beyond as I began reflecting on this incredible season of life I was entering. It took me six years to finish the book and another several years to finally decide to publish it. Then catastrophe hit! I had a stroke on June 10, 2011, which turned my life upside down, needless to say. As I recovered from the profound illness that left my right side paralyzed, I began writing my fourth book on healing entitled Radiant Survivor: How to Shine and Thrive through Recovery from Stroke, Cancer, Abuse, Addiction and Other Life-Altering Experiences. I wanted to inspire others facing their own life traumas, giving them hope and encouragement that they too can live a full life after their life-changing situation. Our circumstance is not who we are or what we will become. I am almost fully recovered now, and I am waiting til the day that I can return to my dance lessons.

If you have read this brief bio of me and find yourself moved to purchase my books, I do hope that you will enjoy them. I welcome any and all comments, good and bad. Happy reading! And please visit me at http://www.ericatucci.com and http://www.radiantsurvivor.com.

This is much more than an account of recovery from illness. It is a deep exploration as to why we let illness and dis-ease visit our door in the first place.

While the author has been there and done that, she doesn't preach but merely tells it as it is and has packed so many tips into this book for those being cared for and those doing the caring.

Reading this book might just save you from taking that 'pill' in the first place.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Book of Hope and Life Lessons 19 Nov 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Stroke survivor Erica Tucci has put together something really special in 'Radiant Survivor'. The book is arranged in a very accessible way, and I love the way she interweaves the poignant stories of herself and other survivors to illustrate the specific things we need if we are to 'survive and thrive'.

Beautifully laid out, the book offers practical advice and exercises as well, undoubtedly owing to the author's professional background as a coach and holistic therapist.

I lent this book to a friend and she said she cried many times while reading it...and then she bought a copy for herself. I think it would make a great gift for anyone in recovery OR for anyone caring for someone in recovery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiration and comfort 23 Jan 2014

As someone who has been through severe health issues and come out the other side, I loved the simple, natural truth of this book. The stories about a range of situations bring perspective and I found them comforting and inspiring. Erica's addition of exercises to trigger new thoughts and actions are really valuable, and I wish I'd had something like this when I was going through my own experience. Thank you Erica!

There can be a profound loneliness when physical or emotional pain seems to separate you from those around you who are not going through the same thing. The fifteen different voices involved in this book allow you a myriad of perspectives to give you insight into your own approach to surviving. If you are living through challenge, this book will help you to know that you are not alone and that there is hope that new possibilities and perspectives will come along and allow healing to take place.

The book includes fourteen contributing stories by those who have passed through various challenges. They share about the pain and loss they have experienced as well as the shifts in attitude that have led to healing or been healing in and of themselves. The stories do not try to make out that the participants felt endlessly upbeat, and they are all the more inspiring for their honesty about the difficulties experienced.
The author of the book - Erica Tucci -introduces and frames the other accounts with her own story of life since having a stroke and the insights that have made her journey richer along the way.

This is a book I will come back to time and time again. I anticipate that if I meet someone who is going through a particular challenge I will check to see if someone going through the same is featured in Radiant Survivor. The book would also make a great present for a friend going through difficult times.

In the interests of openness, I want to state that I am amongst the contributing authors to this book (although with no financial interest in sales). Having not read the book prior to publication, I was delighted to receive my copy and find the book inspiring and moving. I am proud to be amongst those interviewed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for everyone 4 Dec 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a beautiful book about survival from what others would view as a crisis. I word it that way because Erica shows us how she managed to turn that crisis around into something transformational. The subject could be harrowing, but I came away from her story feeling inspired and uplifted.

What I loved most about this book was the lack of self-pity easily blended with empathy for others. The key message for me was that `tragedy' can strike when we least expect it, but how this tragedy affects us is entirely down to us. We hold the power to learn and grow with experience, rather than letting the experience dictate our futures.

Although Erica speaks of her recovery from stroke, her message applies to anyone who has ever gone through a traumatic life experience - in other words, this is a book for EVERYONE.
