About the Author

Brian Hammett has compiled this unique edition of Racundraa s First Cruise. The preface leads us into a treasure trove of unpublished writings, essays and photographs. The life of Ransomea s beloved Racundra is chronicled to its conclusion and there is an explanation of how he came to write the book. The original illustrations are enhanced by the inclusion of present--day photographs of the same locations. Brian Hammett researched the introduction by following Racundraa s route through Latvia and Estonia in his 33 foot gaff AVOLA.

Format: Paperback
This book has been produced by scanning an original copy. The scanning process has missed the last few letters of each line. This is both annoying and makes the book difficult to read. If you use "look inside" you will be able to see this, and it happens on every page. I cannot recommend this edition.

Very poor quality. Text running off the edge of the page. Suppose it would be a good game - guess the last word!

Being Classic Reprint (Copied Electronically) this is always going to be a bit of a 'pig on a poke'. The disclaimer about possible limitations to the format on the publication page is upfront and clear.
In general, most lines on right hand pages have lost the final word, and pages are periodically blank. There is at least one page of larger print size, which means a significantly greater proportion of that page's text is 'guillotined'!
If there were no other options in this price range to this edition, then this would certainly rate better than merely 'better than nothing' - but, at least for my purposes, I have decided to get another more 'complete' one.

I have a specific interest in sailing and particularly the Estonian coast so am pleased with this purchase (hardback). For casual readers the sailing techniques are a little wearisome but the historical references engaging.

While the content of the book is extremely interesting the format, which leaves words missing at the right margin of each line and several lines at the bottom of the page, makes reading it very difficult and slow. It started as a challenge but soon I struggled to supply the missing words. I've made the assumption A Ransome was an agent for the British Gov. and is laughing up his sleeve about the way his book has been reproduced.
