Product Description

Slot cars represent one of the fastest growing segments of the hobby market. This comprehensive history and guidebook offers enthusiasts a wealth of information for participating in virtually all aspects of the hobby. Author and slot-car aficionado Bob Schleicher examines the most popular scales produced from the 1960s to today - HO and 1/32 - and provides advice on obtaining the most collectible models, as well as instruction for detailing car bodies and tuning chassis, motors and tires for optimum performance. In addition, there is information on designing and building track layouts and discussion of the two major schools of slot-car racing: "scale" racing, in which enthusiasts strive to create accurate replicas of their favorite vintage and modern race cars, and all-out slot racing featuring high-tech replicas built strictly for speed, not realism. Robert Schleicher is a scale-model and slot-car enthusiast whose writing has appeared in Boy's Life and Popular Mechanics magazines.

Slot Car Bible 21 Jan 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This book should be included in every slot car starter set sold. The author discusses all the topics from selecting one's first track to the electronics and track design answering all the questions a slot car novice wanted to ask and then some. The author is undoubtely a true expert on slot car racing and yet presents the topic in such a breath-taking professionnalism that this book is a shear reading pleasure to slot car enthusiasts of all levels.

The book is generously illustrated with exceptionally beautiful and informative photos and high-quality drawings. The logical organization and a decent index helps to locate the information easily. My only complaint is that the author has omitted the metric units completely, all the track dimensions being in inches and feet only.

The emphasis of this book is on 1/32 scale slot racing, but HO-scale is also briefly discussed with some track recommendations. While the book is generic enough to be useful for any slot racer, those driving on Scalextric or Carrera tracks will get the most out of it. For these two popular track systems there is a wealth of interesting track layout suggestions and other tips. Many of the layouts can be built using the track material included in high-end starter sets from these two manufacturers without additional track sections.

Highly recommended!

It is good to see an existing Slot Racing Author of the past (He also wrote The Model Car Racing Handbook and other books) returning on great form with this book that brings our hobby up to date.
I felt that the emphasis in the later part of the book on suggestions for Scalextric and Carrera Track Layouts was, though Excellent and a welcome addition that I had never seen in a Slot Car book before, a little too comprehensive and took up space which could have been used to delve more deeply into car tuning, collecting or more in depth histories of the popular manufacturers and their individual products. A book for the Real Scalextric Enthusiasts out there who aren't afraid to Race their Cars instead of leaving them on a shelf gathering dust. A Colourful addition to anybody's Slot Car Library.

A must have book for the slot car enthusiast 3 Jan 2002
By Dennis M. Doherty - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is a "must have" book for anyone either getting into slot cars or returning to slot cars as an adult. Robert Schleicher has an obvious passion for "true to scale" slot cars and doesn't let that passion get in the way of writing clearly. The book is a great source of information for the home slot car enthusiast particularly for 1/32 scale and to a lesser degree HO. He is not into "hopping up" slot cars and even states that it is more fun to win a race between equally matched cars using luck and skill than to win having the faster car. He does however, cover how to customize and optimize as well as performance match "ready to race" slot cars. The pictures are spectacular while the layouts and cars are worthy of the pictures. The book has quite a few typographical errors but weather you want to collect slot cars, build a detailed layout, both or just assemble your slot car set on the floor and race, this is a great book.

A must have for racers and collectors 25 Nov 2001
By Bret Hinerman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
"Racing and Collecting Slot Cars" is a book for every slot car racer and collector. It's primary focus is HO and 1/32 scale slot cars; however, the information provided applies to all scales. This book is well layed out. Each chapter exploring a specific aspect of these table top racers. The photos (many in color) are EXCELLENT. Best book around on the topic. No book is perfect, but Mr. Schleicher does a great job.

Racing and Collecting Slot Cars 26 Oct 2001
By Jim Rawson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
If your into 1/32 scale, I guess it would be fine. If your into h.o. scale, the book has nothing to offer. there is only one chapter (four pages) on H.O. and it is not good. [...]
