Dmitri Hvorostovsky is, as always, superior in his singing of Mussorgsky's "Songs and Dances of Death" and Rachmaninov's "Symphonic Dances". The first is, of course, heavier music and singing. Rachmaninov is, by far, my favorite of the two composers. However, that is only my own opinion. Both pieces are performed by the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, conducted by Yuri Temirkanov, with Dmitri Hvorostovsky singing. For those with a liking for more serious music, this is definitely an excellent option.
