Book Description

A heart warming story on friendship, featuring those loveable charmers, Rabbit and Hedgehog. --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

Product Description

Rabbit and Hedgehog are the best of friends, which is quite a feat when you consider that Rabbit is awake all day, but Hedgehog is only awake at night! Rabbit finds himself wishing that Hedgehog could stay up all day, just once. And then it rains. And it keeps on raining. Rabbit has to abandon his burrow because it gets flooded, and before he can get really worried about Hedgehog, there he is, unable to sleep for the damp. There’s nothing for it, they’ll just have to enjoy the rain together! --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

I have to disagree with the previous reviewer on this book as I find it to be utterly charming. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is a heart-warming tale, exploring not only the difference between rabbits and hedgehogs in their sleeping habits but also the emotions of love and worry.

We first read this when my daughter was 20 months old and she loves it. She soon re-enacted the scene where Rabbit says "I was so worried!", using it in context with her toys and me. She even said "day-day" to me as I put her down for a daytime nap - that was her imitating Rabbit who says "day-day" (instead of "night-night") to hedgehog as he sleeps during the day. It clearly has made an impact and captured her imagination.

On the strength of first getting Rabbit's Wish out as a library book, I then bought it from Amazon as well as the three others in the series: "A Little Bit of Winter (Rabbit & Hedgehog)", "The Birthday Presents" and "What Do You Remember (A Rabbit & Hedgehog story)" - all of which are equally well crafted. I would recommend this book and the rest in the series without hesitation.

Rabbits Wish 7 Aug 2008
Format:Paperback
This book is a little non-descript. It's a slightly twee tale of 2 animals one nocturnal the other not wishing they could stay with each other for the day, the drawings are not that colourful, although bold. My son likes this story but will never choose it off his own back, I tend to reserve it for the occasions we've exhausted the other books as personally I do not find it entertaining to read. However, its non offensive and will appeal to most children if read in a group, even if it doesn't stand out as a `must have'.
