My son (aged almost 7) was given a copy of Peter Rabbit at School to read for homework. I was appalled by this - a "modernised" version with poorly written text and inferior pictures and resolved to get a proper version. This is almost it - the only change from the original was the addition of one or two extra illustrations which were originally supplied, but which were for various reasons left out. Young Dylan thought it was great - praise indeed from a very critical young man. The book arrived promptly and was well-packed. If you've never read Peter Rabbit; well your education has been neglected - read it now, and chuckle. And for children able to read, the large legible type and whimsical illustrations are a joy and the hard cover will ensure longevity. At this price, an excellent buy.

Essential 22 May 2009

The children like this story. I love it though. When I read it aloud I hear my own parents' voices in my head and I follow the same metre and modulation that I remember from my own childhood. Why do I love it so? inly, the use of language still tingles. In these days of measured calculation in education, no one would dare write a book for pre-schoolers featuring the word "soporific" Hooray.

awful layout 19 May 2012
By J. Bray
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The basic text is there to read but I just don't think the kindle is ideal for reading a Beatrix Potter book. Because the text size is selected by the user (and I did fiddle around with it) you get left with huge gappy sections (flicking through 2 or 3 blank pages to get to the next page of text) and there seems no way of avoiding this. I asked for a refund and deleted this from my collection, I just don't think this particular series of books work as kindle books, this was frustrating for my son and I to read at bedtime, for Beatrix Potter books at least I'll stick to the print version. Good effort but it doesn't work.

too small
While there was nothing wrong with the book, I returned it as it was too small. There should be some indication of the size of the books.

Course material
Excellently produced well presented little book which fits the purpose admirably. I'd recommend it no problem, but it's a baby book and twenty words is pushing it.

And It Keeps On Going . . .
I read this book, like countless others before me, as a child of the 60's, and enjoyed the 'innocence' of it very much. Read more

A great idea with a weakness
When I was little, I loved the stories of the pyramids of Egypt and Pharoahs and all that malarkey and I'm sure I'd've loved this book. Read more
