Product Description

The Book is a Dual Language book: Russian original and English professional translation, left-to-right page-for-page match of the extract carefully selected by the author in order to introduce the world classic to an American reader. It is supplied by cultural insight notes, some vocabulary and Russian realia explanation, as well as the observations about the translation.
This is the 4th Book of the series Russian-English Dual-Language Masterpieces of Russian and English Literature authored by Classics. Leo Tolstoy is an outstanding Russian classical writer recognized all over the world. The beautiful simplicity of the rich Tolstoy's language and his deep thoughts about the human nature, human relationships, all the issues that people come across in their lives, is hard to underestimate. Readers will catch themselves reading and rereading Tolstoy's thoughts, wondering over and over how closely they can relate to the people and events of the 19th century. Love, a strong feeling equalizing people through ages, centuries and generations, is one of the central narrative lines of Tolstoy's plot of "Anna Karenina".
The book is very informative and can be used by Russian language instructors, and students as a great additional language tool of familiarizing with Russian classics.
Zoia is a bilingual professional who lives and works in California. She has a Master's Degree in Education and seven years of Spanish studies, that expands her cultural perception on literature to the three world languages. She is a native speaker of Russian; an audio track of the Russian text is also available.
You may contact the author through FaceBook: she'll send you an audio track.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Language studies 10 April 2013

I was very glad to finally get this version. Ms Sproesser's technique is most helpful for anyone using this wonderful novel to help them learn a new language. It is obvious that this is the purpose of this particular text.
I have read other works by the author, and found them all to be of this same quality.

Highly recommended,,,,

5.0 out of 5 stars A great representation of Russian literature. 7 April 2013

A great piece of educational material for those who would like to get an idea of Lev Tolstoy's masterpiece, Anna Karenina. The author chose the best chapters of the novel about love. I am bilingual and educator and consider this book to be an outstanding resource for those who want to study Russian. Moreover, Zoia Sproesser includes a detailed explanation of Russian language words and phrases which can be difficult for nonnative speakers. As a bonus, my students can listen to these chapters on YouTube (zoiacalifornia) read by the author and improve their pronunciation . Furthermore, these two chapters made me want to reread the novel again to enjoy Lev Tolstoy's unique  language. Thank you, Zoia Sproesser!
5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Book Recommended! 23 April 2013

A Good Book Recommended!

I study Russian by myself. This book helps me to understand better vocabulary. I also like to read and listen to Zoia Sproesser's videos on her UTube channel "zoiacalifornia" of these 2 chapters that are in the book. Reading and listening (simultaneously) to a native speaker, that she is, helps me a lot to grasp the pronunciation of some familiar vocabulary. Thank you, Zoia Sproesser, for doing good job helping students of Russian! I also have read "Anna Karenina" in English, the complete novel, to know the novel. I liked it very much!

1.0 out of 5 stars bit of a waste 3 Dec 2012

bought this thinking i could read the book - all i got was a choppy chapter that changes language halfway through the sentence, and starts midway through the book, with no introduction of plot or characters... i speak both languages well, but still found the choppy changes rather frustrating. would not recommend this unless you are trying to make sense o the russian language and don't mind having no storyline background. This particular book kind of kills the impact of a great novel
