Product Description

Product Description

The best beginner's guide to British birds. It covers 300 of the most commonly found birds in Britain and Ireland in a compact and easy-to-use format. Each species is beautifully illustrated in colour in its characteristic habitat with identification tips and background notes. In addition the book carries a unique section on where to watch birds on RSPB reserves, including full details of opening times and how to get there.

For this new edition, both the text and the maps have been revised and brought completely up to date to reflect changes in breeding and wintering patterns.

About the Author

Peter Holden is Head of the RSPB's Youth and Volunteer Department. He appears frequently on TV, including schools programmes and, in the past, the BBC's very popular Bird in the Nest. He lives in Bedford. Dr JTR Sharrock was until recently Managing Editor of the monthly magazine British Birds. He is author of a number of books including The Atlas of Breeding Birds in Britain and Ireland and Rare Birds in Britain and Ireland.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful Information, 28 Aug 2007
By J. Chippindale (England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)

This book contains all the usual information that a good quality book on birds should carry within its pages. It covers 300 of the most commonly found birds in Britain and Ireland in a well laid out and easy to follow format. What I found both interesting and informative is that the book contains all the necessary information for watching birds on RSPB reserves. The opening times of the sites and how to get there.
Both the text and the maps have been revised and brought completely up to date to reflect changes in breeding and wintering patterns.

At the present time books on birds are many and varied and as the saying goes "you pays your money and you makes your choice" but the information on the RSPB reserves give this book that extra little something that the others do not have.
