I have the old version of this book and I thought I would get the new updated version and I have noticed a few changes from the old version to this one. First at each section of bird species it has the lists if birds and page numbers so you can very quickly go to the bird you want.(old one didn't have that) and has new images too. It comes with a Bird call CD too. This is a must have to your bird library if you are a experienced Birder or one starting out.

I bought this to use as a first-source when trying to identify different bird species. Each species gets its own page, including diagnostic features, general habitat, etc., as well as similar species listed at the bottom of the page - this is one of the best features for me, as it highlights how to distinguish bird species that on first glance appear almost the same. The bird songs included and the description of wing beats are also really useful features. The only thing missing is a key to bird groups, for when you have no idea what type of bird you are trying to identify - but I think this may be asking too much, and I don't think this subtracts from the quality or usefulness of the book. I would definitely recommend this book.

This is the best such book that I've found - and there are quite a few. Each page entry has clear illustrations of the things one most wants to know. Significantly better than the old-style Collins in which the illustrations are too small and too restricted to, albeit good, illustration of the birds. The addition of a CD of birdsong is a nice addition.
If you have any older friends of relatives who like spotting birds and who now rarely use their old Collins Fieldguide then buy them this for their next b'day.

This book is currently on sale on the RSPB website £16.99, its a 2014 edition with a CD containing 100+ bird songs.
The book is perfect, so this is not a second, I bought it because my British birds book did not cover European birds and this one covers every thing I saw in Spain/Portugal this summer and I wanted something fairly comprehensive to keep in the car/nearby.
