I am so glad I decided to purchase these very fine Ethernet Couplers. My life is now complete; faith in humanity is restored, and...I get to watch porn upstairs, downstairs and even in the shed.
Long live Chinese made Plastic!

This is an good product for splicing ethernet cables, plug to plug.

It works well enough to set up a 20 meter (approx 60ft) connection, using two 10-meter cables. That's what I use to hook up two houses with, so they are on the same network.

Cheap, and handy to have around when you have short cables and need a quick fix.

I wouldn't trust using many of these daisy-chained as I don't know about the shielding. Check your link speeds (I believe you run ifconfig on Unix or ipconfig /all on a PC to check link, or you can use the Control Panel (on a PC I don't recall exactly where it is) or System Preferences/Network/Advanced/Hardware on a Mac. Also test large transfers across to another computer running the same type of speed interface and see if the speeds are low.

Sometimes the link can go down to 100mbit/s and Single Duplex. Single Duplex basically means that the ethernet cable can't send and receive at the same time, reducing speeds.

That said, mine work fine!

Bought mine from CALTRAD, items arrived in no time. I am stating that as this appears to be a generic item (and there are some Chinese merchants who take ages to deliver; while there are good UK dealers for roughly the same price). I have tested three of them by disconnecting an STP Cat5e cable and putting them between that cable and a UTP Cat5e cable and tried copying some files. I got the same gigabit speeds I get with my gigabit network. didn't see any difference from connecting my PC directly to the switch or connecting it using another cable going through these couplers (and both cables were a total 30: 10m and 20m). This is quite interesting as these couplers are rated as 'Cat 5' and not Cat5e, but I suppose Cat5 is now obsolete. As far as I could notice they hold the RJ45 connector quite tightly.

EDIT (gender and the cable): I see that the reference to these as 'gender changers' causes some confusion. Indeed they don't make a cross-over cable out of a 'straight' cable--I suppose what is meant is that they turn a 'male' ethernet cable into a 'female' at one end. Nevertheless, they are very useful if you have/you make a short cross-over cable (usually made for ad hoc purposes), and then connect a longer cable to them--instead of buying/making a long cross-over cable.

I have used these a fair bit of different situations and I found about 3 out of every 10 wouldn't make the connection usually because they were too big for the rj45 plug to fit snuggly. So they are pretty poorly made to be honest. They are ok but if you need a whole 10 to work as this bundle is sold in numbers of 10 you might have to order two sets.

Just push your cat 5 cables into each of the sockets and 'click' they're connected. I don't know whether these couplers use mechanical, magnetic, or dark forces to hold the plugs on my Cat5 leads in place - it's not my place to say; I'm not a scientist. What I will say is that they're held in place very well, and I'm able to view web pages very clearly. Doesn't matter whether pictures are black and white or full-colour, these connectors just seem to pull them right in. I've not tried listening to music so I can't say for sure whether they're stereo or not.

using with a cat5/6 router and even tho they were cheap theyve been recommened, i know they may not support cat 6 speeds but I thought this would be to much of a good deal to pass up, but I was wrong, When fitted with my ASUS RT-n56 router they just didnt work, 3 connections were intermittent at best and just flat out didnt work 90% of the time. Id say avoid at all costs but it could just be an isolated incident.

Simply put, you plug a cable in one side, and another cable in the other, and they are effectively spliced. Much easier to set up a temporary job with two 10m cables with this product fitted in a joint, than a 20m one dragged the entire way. Plus you might not always have a long enough cable. You get 10 of em, so why not make a 10m connection out of ten 1m cables. The possibilities really are endless.

The RJ45 joiners themselves work great, and I am currently using three of them around the house though places that the cables need to be detached.

The only downside to these joiners are that the quality of the moulding is not the greatest, I have yet to have problems and at the price I don't care, but it stops the product from getting 5/5 stars as this could cause a fault down the line.
