Book Description

30 May 2003 0340763396 978-0340763391
River Processes deals primarily with flow and sediment dynamics in alluvial channels. It emphasises water flows (basic principles and characterisation), fluvial sediment, processes of erosion and sediment transport, bedforms that result from flow-bed sediment interactions in sand and gravel, flow and sedimentary processes in curved, braided and confluent channels, as well as aquatic habits.

River Processes provides a comprehensive synthesis of current knowledge about physical processes in alluvial channels, with an emphasis on the recent work on flow-bed-sediment transport interactions. It is intended primarily for undergraduate students interested in fluvial studies as part of physical geography, earth sciences, environmental sciences and ecology courses. The textbook is fully illustrated throughout with line drawings and photographs.

Product Description

Review

This textbook provides a useful reference and is suitable for advanced-level courses. The synthesis of recent literature presented here provides an opportunity for those already working in the field to consider how fluvial geomorphology has moved forward in the past 20 years. (Aquatic Conservation 20041001)

River Processes is up to date and well referenced. Students will find that this book provides sound explanations of the principles of river dynamics. It is refreshing accessible in style; and the necessary jargon and equations do no detract from this. In summary, Andre Robert is to be commended on producing a textbook that seems certain to be widely used - it is certain to become a staple of undergraduate reading lists for the next decade. (The Holocene 20040901)

River Processes is a creditable addition to the literature. All the illustrations are clear and well drawn...River Processes will become a popular book that is required reading in all fluvial geomorphology courses empasising the interactions between water flow and sediment transport. (Progress in Physical Geography 20041101)

Format:Paperback
An exellent book that covers most of the important topics...it does however miss out on the chance to introduce the readership to the inovative use of Computational Fluid Dynamics within River Flow investigations....
