Product Description

RIOT ACT is the second in Zoë Sharp’s highly acclaimed Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Fox crime thriller series, now available in e-format for the first time, complete with author’s notes, excerpt from the next Charlie Fox book – HARD KNOCKS – and a bonus excerpt from Timothy Hallinan’s second Junior Bender novel, LITTLE ELVISES.

“I am a violent man, Miss Fox,” Garton-Jones said, without bravado or inflection. “I can − and will − do whatever is necessary to control this estate. Remember that.”

A self-defence expert with a motorbike and an attitude, Charlie Fox doesn’t need to go looking for trouble. It generally finds her. House-sitting for a friend seems like an easy favour at first but the house in question is in the Lavender Gardens estate. Teenage gangs are running riot and Charlie’s desperate neighbours have been forced to employ an expensive − and ruthless − security firm to apply rough justice where the legal kind has failed. The situation gets even uglier when a young Asian boy is fatally wounded in what appears to be a racially motivated shooting.

Caught in the middle of an urban battlefield, Charlie’s more than able to take care of herself but then she comes face to face with a spectre from her army past. As the tensions rise, lives will depend on Charlie working out just who she can really trust . . .

Praise for RIOT ACT and Charlie Fox

‘Sharp’s first novel, Killer Instinct was a good read, but within the first few pages of Riot Act she surpasses herself. She succeeds in bringing the characters alive and Charlie Fox makes a powerful and attractive heroine. Equally, her other characters work well and she succeeds in creating snappy dialogue and mixing it well with action. At times, Riot Act feels slightly reminiscent of Minette Walters’ ‘Acid Row’ . . . (Sharp) takes her Lancashire setting, throws in a great deal of action and creates a fast-paced novel that is guaranteed to build on the reputation created by her debut novel and make her known as an up-and-coming talent in the crime world.’ Luke Croll, Murder & Mayhem Book Club

‘Ill-tempered, aggressive and borderline psychotic, Fox is also compassionate, introspective and highly principled: arguably one of the most enigmatic − and coolest − heroines in contemporary genre fiction.’ Paul Goat Allen, Chicago Tribune

Charlie Fox returns - this story provides a bit more background into her relationship with Sean. Again though, action packed, great storyline and charactors. If you like action, adventure, kick-ass heroine...you'll love Charlie Fox. Well recommended but unfortunately just makes me wish I'd taken to riding motorbikes years ago...!

Number 2 in the Charlie Fox series and as good as the first but with the main character a bit more familiar. I didn't really find the plot too great, TBH, but then the plot is often secondary to the action in these sorts of books and Ms Sharp does an excellent job of weaving the strands together in an exciting and satisfactory manner.

It makes a pleasant change to have a female ''tough-guy'' but the author has cleverly avoided making her heroine butch, a mankiller or any other stereotypical female character - Charlie comes across as one who might, in other circumstances, have been a check-out girl, librarian or something equally normal. Yet she has the Army background, the training and, when necessary, the pluck to get herself into and out of difficult situations.

Really enjoyable stuff.

Another brilliant book. I wasn't sure to start with where the story was going but I soon got into it and couldn't put it down. Reading it straight after book 1 was good as the familiarity is there with the characters.

I wont go into the plot as you can read the synopsis but this book is definately worth reading but be warned, don't plan on doing anything else as you won't be able to put it down!! The same can be said for book 3 which I am halfway through :)
