Book Description

6 Dec 2007 0750685182 978-0750685184 2
It's Back! New chapters, examples, and insights; all infused with the timeless concepts and theories that have helped RF engineers for the past 25 years! RF circuit design is now more important than ever as we find ourselves in an increasingly wireless world. Radio is the backbone of today's wireless industry with protocols such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, WiMax, and ZigBee. Most, if not all, mobile devices have an RF component and this book tells the reader how to design and integrate that component in a very practical fashion. This book has been updated to include today's integrated circuit (IC) and system-level design issues as well as keeping its classic "wire lead" material. Design Concepts and Tools include the basics: Wires, Resistors, Capacitors, Inductors; Resonant Circuits: Resonance, Insertion Loss; Filter Design: High-pass, Bandpass, Band-rejection; Impedance Matching: the L Network, Smith Charts, Software Design Tools; Transistors: Materials, Y Parameters, S Parameters; Small Signal RF Amplifier: Transistor Biasing, Y Parameters, S Parameters; RF Power Amplifiers: Automatic Shutdown Circuitry , Broadband Transformers, Practical Winding Hints; R F Front-End: Architectures, Software-Defined Radios, ADC's Effects; RF Design Tools: Languages, Flow, Modeling. This is completely updated but still contains its classic timeless information. It covers two new chapters on RF Front-End Design and RF Design Tools. It it not overly math intensive, perfect for the working RF and digital professional that need to build analog-RF-Wireless circuits.

4.0 out of 5 stars usefull as an introduction 26 April 2009
Format:Paperback
It serves as a good and short introduction to RF, for people with no previous experience. Does not go into depth in any of the topics described but gives a good overview. Easily read and lots of examples.

5.0 out of 5 stars RF Circuit design 27 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback
The book is hugely informative, fills in many technical points that are mostly a secret in the RF comm's business for circuit design. For any Radio Amateur or Radio Ham as myself, it is a book to have for the shelf and to both refernce and learn from, even if it is just a check up ones own knowledge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Detailed and written in simple language 9 Oct 2010
By Sky
Format:Paperback
This book is quite large (bigger than A4 sized paper) and so packs quite a lot of information in 240 pages. Sure there are more detailed books, but anyone who reads this book would then be well prepared to research any topic in greater detail.
This book has a lot of 'worked examples' where the author shows the steps (calculations) to reach a given design. This means that it is easy to adapt the design, i.e. this book is very practical.
Furthermore the author is not trying to complicate things, and actually writes in plain language, which helps greatly.

The book also has quite a few tables to help design filters without software (well, it is useful to get the ballpark or for confirmation that you're on the right track) and also explains the Smith chart very well.

The last few sections of the book describe some of the design and simulation tools that are available, which is great to let us know how engineers design for RF.
