BEST BOOK ON REVIVAL 24 Oct 2009
By robert
A PEOPLE SATURATED WITH GOD

It is a great surprise that no other reviews have been written on this book. After having read and studied on revival for over 20 years I consider this one of the outstanding books on revival. Maybe I am biased because it was early in that time that I read it. It is both simple easy reading as well as thorough, sound, scriptural and deeply inspiring. It is perfect for first time readers on revival as well as those who are mature who are looking for something to encourage and inspire.

Brian H. Edwards deals chapter by chapter with i) What is revival ii) Before revival iii) During revival iv) After revival v) Our response to revival vi) I was there - eye witness accounts.

The back cover reads "Edwards seeks to bring the reader into contact with revival and to introduce it to those who may never have read much on the subject. This book is not a clinical analysis of revival, nor just an assessment of God's reviving work in the past. Rather it is the author's declared intention to inform our minds and inflame our hearts so that we may have a heart-longing for God to give us revival in our day and so that we might become what Duncamn Campbell decsribes as a 'people saturated with God.'"

This is for those who want to read a good defintion of revival - an opening up of Biblical revivals - a reminder of revivals throughout church history. May God inspire and inflame your heart for revival as you read.

Great Overview of All Things Revival 22 Nov 2009

I really enjoyed reading this book. Edwards does a great job of walking the reader through the theology of revival. He frames the work around the story of Hezekiah and then relates revivals throughout history to the truths he pulls out of the biblical account. The range of revival themes is completely thorough, no stone is left unturned. It's one of those books that is filled with classic quote after quote from revival men of old and genuine account after account. Great resource to pull gems of insight and wisdom from (if you've read The Hidden Life of Prayer you'll know what I mean). The two chapters, An Experience of God and Holiness of Life, were alone worth the price of the book. At the end of his study, Edwards also includes personal accounts of 5 revivals he had the privilege of witnessing.

All in all, very solid intro book to revival and worthy addition to anyone's library. It will ignite a fresh passion to see God move in your life, the Church, and the world.
