remote socket set 24 Jan 2011
Needlessly complicated to set up and need a magnifying glass to do so - why both a 'code' and a 'channel'? Why are there 4 on-off switches but only 3 plugs? (I can only get one to work). I am very familiar with these gadgets - I have happily used 4 other makes and none have these problems. When I contacted the seller they couldn't help me because a) the person I spoke to did not know the product and b) I was told I could not return it because I had opened the sealed packet. OF COURSE I HAD OR I WOULDN'T KNOW THE PROBLEMS!!! B Davies

I was so impressed with my first purchase of these sockets that I bought more within a week or two. Shortly afterwards, I read some reviews elsewhere that warned of the sockets failing to respond to the remote control. Sure enough, two of my sockets developed the same fault.
The real danger lies in that the LED in the socket responds to the remote by switching on and off, but the power is still allowed through to the attached appliance. Ironing clothes has never been such fun!
On the plus side, the range is good and the instructions state that up to 10 sockets can be controlled using a single remote, although I suspect the number should actually be 16 (4 channels X 4 codes per channel).
Shame they can't be relied on.

Pros:
1. Simple setup
2. No need to re-program after power cut
3. Rubber remote buttons

Cons:
1. No master 'ALL ON' or 'ALL OFF' button
2. Range can suffer if there are too many things between remote & socket
3. Remote control looks a bit cheap (but then, it is!)

If, like me, you have 4 lamps in your lounge and want to switch them on and off with the minimum of effort then these are great. The rubber buttons are a bonus - I've also got a different set with plastic remote buttons and they rattle and feel really cheap. This other set I have also needs reprogramming after a power cut or when the mains is switched off which is a pain - these are much better in that once the remote and socket is set then it won't need doing ever again.

I even have a set of these in a log cabin which negated the need to wire in light switches and where I simply mounted the remote on the wall like a light switch.

Overall, very good for the money.
