The biggest of the Thomas characters 22 Mar 2012

Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
HECTOR is the biggest of the Thomas the Tank Engine characters, at least, of the characters that are 1-piece characters. HECTOR is almost entirely made of wood, except for the plastic face (smiling and glancing to the right), the front magnet, the rear magnet, the metal axles that enable swivelling of the front wheel unit and the rear wheel unit, and the plastic wheels. Thus, the wooden parts are the big compartment on top, the red-painted flat platform, the front swivelling wheel unit, and the rear swivelling wheel unit. The big compartment has a longitudinal groove, which fits into a longitudinal tongue that is part of the flat platform. Most of the Thomas the Tank Engine characters have stable wheels, that it, they are firmly attached to the railcar. But HECTOR has two swivel units, which rotate independtly of each other, to allow this railcar to navigate curves.

Good looking, nothing exemplary 6 Dec 2008

A good representation of the character in wooden-railroad form. Good size letters on the side are good for helping younger users recognize a few of their letters. I don't know of anything that is meant to "work" with Hector's opening: the cargo container that comes with cranky and a few of the other "destination" toys do not fit. A few things that I can think of to put inside would be too small for an under-3 child.

For awhile this was my son's favorite, but that was, of course, supplanted by other characters.
Hector is large! 2 Jun 2011

Hector is one of the few (if not the only) hopper car that you can purchase among the Thomas Wooden Railway products. For this reason, he is a must-have for train freaks in your household. However, I will warn that he is LARGE. So large that you have to be careful how you build the wooden track with regards to corners, bridges, and tunnels, as not to frustrate your little engineers. He is one of my son's favorite trains, but if we're not careful he is frustrating.
